The PoMasto project “Return to life after mastectomy” 2016-1-PL01-KA202-026748 was carried out as a part of cooperation for innovation and exchange of good practices.
The aim of the project was to: a) increase the awareness and competence of the medical staff (doctors, dietitians, physiotherapists) regarding the needs of women after mastectomy; b) create new or improve existing procedures in the approach to patients, making specialists aware that an important factor affecting the well-being of patients is not only the physical removal of the tumor, but also psychological support and proper physiotherapy. The effect of the actions was to improve the quality of womens’ lives and support them in returning to active life and full functioning in the society.
The consortium was created by institutions conducting activities of a similar nature:

It conducts activities towards the development and education of young people and vocational training of adults. It provides consultancy services in the field of education to individuals and institutions.
– Institutul Postliceal Phoenix Association (IPP), part of which is the Oncosupport Center, established to facilitate the reintegration of women with cancer. It provides, among others, psychological support, occupational therapy, healthy eating courses. It also provides training and courses for adults to raise their qualifications.

In October 2017 an educational meeting was organized at the Institute with lecturesgiven by medical specialists, psychologists, members of the Amazons’ clubs. The leader also organized free Yoga classes for women after mastectomy (February- March 2018).
Information about the project and its results comprising educational materials are available in all partner languages, as well as in English on the project website. The website contains also tips on issues addressed to women, their families, relatives and specialists. The information meetings, scientific picnics and workshops organized by the partners were aimed at disseminating the project results.
The project largely influenced the development of competences and skills of specialists working with women after mastectomy, introduced an innovative individualization of conduct and care of a woman after mastectomy, which was formally considered healthy, but must go a long way before fully returning to the society.
