Project Summary
The project pursues the four main strategic objectives for the ET 2020 framework. Firstly at the end of this project not only students will have improved their skills facing with a problem that concerns them closely, but also the teachers will face off with ideas and new perspectives. Furthermore the ability of managing with a large amount of data that can be correlated in many different ways will improve the school education that usually deals with small problems whose solution doesn’t require many calculations. The opportunity of meeting mates of other countries who look at the same problem from their point of view will strengthen an active citizenship. Lastly, the solutions of a so complex problem as the ability to change people’s habits cannot be standards.
The capacity of retrieving as larger amount as possible of rare materials can be the turning point of consumerism that is still the main culture in the civilized nations, as it can be seen by the amount of plastic in the oceans and the idea that it’s enough to send the garbage towards the not developed countries to solve its disposal.
The project will have impacts at various levels from staff to pupils and it will improve the skills of those engaged in teaching and learning in education, which in turn will provide scope for changes directly into a wider community through the dissemination of results and found solutions.
The four schools, who are taking part in this project, start from similar purposes in their curricular activity; for this reason they are interested in the growing up of their students debating about a problem related to them, but linked to the realities which are different not only from a cultural but also from an economical point. The ability to manage data, their interpretation, the capacity to come out with new ideas to solve a real problem could become, for some of the involved people, a real job opportunity, looking at the importance that the data analysis has in all the political and economical actions.
The main objectives of this project are:
1. to facilitate participation in interactive European learning sessions to develop skills and competencies using ICT
2. to develop the ability of interviewing people and to create an empathic link with the interviewed people about the importance of the study that they are bringing on.
3. to develop language and cultural understanding
4. to reflect and identify best practice to share with participating partners and the wider community during and after the project life.
The project is an on field research, which will develop the following activities:
1. the selection of the materials used in the electronic devices, which students normally uses, through web researches;
2. the construction of a database, which has to be filled out with data got not only from internet but also from interviews to relatives, friends and mates;
3. the data analysis and of correlations between them;
4. the coming out of ideas about the reason of differences which should be found from the different partners and how to bring each partner to an higher ability of recovering materials, the birth of ideas that can be spread from a local area to wider areas through conferences and meeting in which also local governments will be invited.
The activities will be developed mainly through the E-twinning collaborations, online conferences and four short terms exchange of pupils, which will stimulate collaborative skills, communication skills, problem solving, team work and critical thinking.
The benefits ,the project brings, are invaluable and long lasting. Therefore they will support modernisation of out curriculum and provide the learners and staff with the skills and competencies needed to be active European citizens.
The project brings about changes to the way in which schools will plan their curricular activities, this in the long term will transform education in the partner countries as well as the in the school settings of those who will benefit from the materials which will remain available to the public beyond the term of the project.
