Project Summary
The project coordinator of the 24 months’ project “The Greenprint:Ecological Literacy” is France, partners are Greece, Bulgaria, Italy and Turkey. Environmental corruption, the growth of population, the energy inflation and the trends in economical recession show that the world of future need ecological literate citizens who can design and create sustainable systems. . In next years, people’s survival will be connected to our ecological literacy and understanding the basic principles of ecology and also our desire to live in accordance with this. But, the present education practices are not effective to improve students’ environmental literacy. Eco-literacy should be an important part of the education in each level from primary and secondary schools to colleges, universities and continuous education. Our objectives are;
– To develop a habit of acting with ecological literacy identity for lifelong for family members and other communities.
– To make an effect on students for attending local, national and international ecological and environmental activities .
– To lead students who are deciders of tomorrow to move with knowledge, skills and attitude about the problems of local and global sources.
– To develop students’ skills of critical thinking, problem solving, communication in foreign language and ICT tools.
– To make an effort to make ecological footprints smaller.
– To integrate ecological literacy practices that we will develop with the cooperation in European level into the curriculum and use in our schools for years.
– To place in some other international partnerships for the same goals, develop local projects with stakeholders.
– To provoke teachers to develop innovative and effective pedagogical, scientific, social and interdisciplines approaches, incease the quality of our institutions.
From each school, 4 students of 9-13 ages and 2 teachers will attend LTTA. The total number will be 120 during 2 years. Participants will attend some activities such as life cycle of some livings, designing terrarium, using layer models, designing sustainable city models, visiting recycling facility, making clothes by using recycle materials, making musical instruments with recycle materials, obtaining new papers using old newspapers, preparing compost, ecological footprint game, clean-up activities with local communities, ecological camp, making interactive posters, virtual meetings and lesson visits actively. The project activities will come true with the 24 months’ work plan and the methodology of a strong communication and cooperation among partners and stakeholders. Expected results are: Ecological literacy develop students’ understanding of sustainable life practices about economy, equality and environment. Project activities will support students’ intelligence level and creative problem solving besides their global awareness and environmental responsibility, prepare them to be innovative and inspiring leaders in order to maintain the world. Teachers will develop their professional profiles as a result of sharing good practices, mutual professional knowledge exchange and common activities; effort to produce different techniques and methods and share their experiences with their colleagues in national and international networks. Participants will try to make ecological footprints smaller, they will develop their foreign language skills by the way of attending transnational project activities besides the skills and knowledge of ecological literacy. Students develop creativity in order to use different things accepted as litter, develop strong ties and
friendships with the ones from partner schools, gain practice of foreign language, develop team work and social skills, get interested in the other countries as well as their culture, and gain tolerance. Institutions will feel proud of growing conscious Europeans of future up with ecological literacy practices. Students will embody learning differently from abstract knowledge that they encounter in classes. They will gain awareness of life going on in a sustainable environment and World.
Participant personnel will strengthen their professional profile with pedagogical applied experiments and constructive approaches. Even after the project ends, the abstract and concrete outputs of the project will go on with developing the students’ understanding of sustainable life practices about economy, equality and environment, and also their skills of critical thinking, questioning and telling that are necessary to be ecological and sensitive for the environment. Partner schools will go on with taking place in common organizations with families and local public and developing cooperation with them besides the environment and ecology societies and the capacity of the institutions will increase.
