Project Summary

Our project with the title “APPic Learning” (play on words with the words app and epic) will help students and teachers to develop digital skills and competences. We realized that there is a big need for a project about digitalization. Focusing on learning apps connects the digitalization with education and learning with apps will increase the students’ motivation to study. Students and teachers need to get better dealing with new technologies, as well as finding a way of using technology wisely in class and outside of class. We are happy we found our current partners from Macedonia, Estonia and Poland, because we make a great diverse team, with two of the smaller countries of Europe and two of the biggest countries in Europe. Even though Germany is a large country, it has its problems with country wide digitalization, in contrast to that, is Estonia one of the best digitalized countries.
Bringing young children together to implement the idea of a united Europe is our fundamental goal. We want to build lifelong friendships and with these partner schools we found great partners who have the same goal.
Our project will include interactive sightseeing tours through the cities of each hosting city prepared by the hosting students. For these interactive sightseeing tours apps like “actionbound” will be used. With this reoccurring part of the program the students will improve their skills working with apps, which they use to create their own tasks and quizzes.
Nowadays there are different types of gaming, and e-sports have also become a very big influence on students. That is why we see the need to show students the importance of finding the right balance between e-sports and real physical sport games. Therefore, this will be included in the program of every country visited.
There are many different educational apps that help motivate students to study better. Students and teachers will find, test and evaluate many different apps and share their results with all the members of the project. This research will take part while all members are in their home countries and prepare for the next meeting.
Our highest goal is developing our own learning app. Therefore, we will do workshops in every country that will help us to program our own app, which we will finalize at our last meeting in Germany. These workshops will teach students computer and programming skills to create their app.
As our final products we will have our app as well as a collection of the learning apps which we have found, tested and evaluated in a booklet for other students and teachers.
We think with this project we will create two great products, improve the digital skills of students and teachers, build lifelong friendships, help students to become more tolerant and open-minded and avoid prejudices in the future.
As a team of diverse teachers, students and home countries we see a huge opportunity in widen our horizon by learning from each other and together.
The follwoing objectives will be reached at the end of the project:
• Students can create a sightseeing tour through their hometown with the help of “actionbound” (interactive app, which is used to create
sightseeing tours)
• Increasing the students’ motivation of learning by using learning apps
• Students program their own learning app
• Students develop a consciousness of the balance of playing E-sports and sports
• Students become more tolerant and open-minded to avoid prejudices
• Students develop a better consciousness of their own cultural heritage by preparing the stay of their visiting friends
• Teachers improve their digital skills and competences
• Teachers can use the tools of eTwinning
All these objectives will be a result of the four meetings. We wil meet in every country one time and have the same schedule for every meeting with different contents. The students will do an interactive sightseeing tour, prepared by the hosting students, get to know and use a variety of learning apps (every country focuses on a different field of subject: Macedonia –> P.E./ art/ music; Estonia –> languages; Poland –> sciences; Germany –> social studies), play e-sports and real sports (finding the balance between the real life and the digital life), participate in a workshop, where they will learn skills concerning digital media especially the basics of programming and present the results of the meeting in a proper way on the last day.
All the participants of this project will benefit a lot. Students will use their new skills for their academic future and teachers will improve their teaching by using new technology.
