Project Summary

Bilingual education is an integral part of our FRÖBEL concept. Following immersive language learning principles, we enable children from the youngest age to experience a new language in every day conversations, as well as develop their own feeling for other languages. In order to develop our bilingualism further, we would like to support a greater opening towards and consequent integration of a variety of cultural aspects, including a focus on European cultural experiences. This is why we would like to enable the pre-school children of each kindergarten year over the next three years to visit a Spanish partner institution. Spanish professionals will also visit our centre here in Germany.
This project will strengthen our bilingual intercultural kindergarten co-existence as the children will experience the Spanish which they hear daily in their kindergarten as being the everyday language for everyone in the whole of society in Spain as well as experiencing Spain’s culture live. Of vital importance as a bridge between the two living environments are our Spanish speaking educators whose tales of life from their Spanish homeland can now be experienced in person. The children have until now experienced Spanish within the limited semantic context of their kindergarten – this will now be opened up to include a Spanish centre as comparision and extension, all the while cementing positive first intercultural, linguistic experiences.
We are living in a global world and we would also like to both promote (cultural) diversity in society in combination with our open FRÖBEL pedagogy as well as have the opportunity to communicate this with others.
Our Spanish partners also see the opportunity of comparing Spanish kindergarten life with the bilingual kindergarten life in the Krähennest, thus creating professional further development opportunities. Aspects of this include the analysis of both the own and the other culture whereby language and eating habits and ideals in the different cultures offer an accessible, but also long-term sustainable starting point for the further analysis of both cultural differences and similarities.
