Project Summary

Where do we come from? Experiences of migration in Europe – united in diversity. This is the title of a project that fosters international understanding and gives pupils insight into the topic of migration. Pupils from Ida Ehre Schule in Hamburg, Germany and the Istituto Istruzione Superiore in Castelnovo ne’Monti in Italy (aged 14-16) work together on the topic of migration over a period of two years. Starting from their own family history pupils acquire knowledge about causes and consequences of migration, they look for differences between Germany and Italy and explore how the family background influences their own identity. They acquire knowledge and attitudes that enable them to take part in the discussion of this topic which is essential for Europe.
The results are presented to the (school) public in various forms at the end of the project. Pupils learn to apply different software programmes and use communication platforms in the course of the project so that essential digital skills are also acquired.
English is used as project language between the schools which changes its function from a school subject to an actual means of communication.
In summary the project helps Europe growing together by fostering open-mindness and tolerance towards new apects as well as by studying this for Europe so important topic.
