Project Summary
High expectations of society in the field of ensuring public safety are closely related to the fact that police officers in all countries are facing increasing requirements for professional qualification and competences. Thus, in order to ensure a successful and modern training of police cadets, who have good analytical communication skills and an independent global thinking, a need to create innovative training schemes and means, which promote the development of internationally acknowledged competences and skills and include the police training institutions of other countries into the training process, arises.
Consequently, the development of the above-mentioned high quality skills and competences through the innovation strategic partnership project directly responds to the needs of the institutions responsible for training police officers in different project partner countries in different sectors of education (higher education and vocational education). For this reason foreign institutions – Police School in Slupsk (Poland) and Police Academy (Croatia) had been chosen as project partners. It is important to search for the opportunities to unify training process in the partner countries or to find similarities which would contribute to create relevant training frameworks to promote quality mobility placements of cadets in police education institutions in other countries including credit transfer implementation (ECVET). When creating new training models, it is equally important to use such training methods and means that would encourage students to learn the topic and also to exchange different skills and experience, to communicate and to reach the best results in the cooperation.
The aim of the project is to develop the international police cadets training conception through cooperative learning which enables to create, test and implement an innovative training practice, namely, a training programme with recommendations for trainers, which is destined for international police cadets cooperative learning.
In order to achieve the aim, the following objectives are planned to accomplish:
– to create a training programme for police cadets (“Joint programme for police cadets training through cooperative learning” of 40 academic hours) dedicated for international police cadets groups. The programme will be adjusted and integrated into training programmes of partner institutions and will enable police cadets from foreign countries to participate in the training process by acknowledging their learning outcomes.
– to organize two international pilot training activities in three countries simultaneously. The events are intended for police cadets to develop the abilities of communication and international cooperation, critical thinking, situation management and command as well as decision making by means of cooperative learning. 6 cadets from each project partner institution (a group consists of 18 cadets) will take part. Therefore, during one pilot training activity 54 cadets while learning in international groups will improve their knowledge and practical skills related to the fields of police officer’s work, general and professional English language, as well as intercultural communication and other personal skills.
– to develop “Methodical recommendations for trainers” regarding the principles of the organization of international training events, the application of training methods and the use of training tools through the implementation of the cooperative learning programme.
The target group of the project include police cadets of partner institutions who participate in internationals projects of mobility and arrive to study at a foreign police officer training institution.
The main impact of project activities for partner institutions is the opportunities and conditions to organize and develop the training of police cadets on the international level, thus integrating the content of vocational training subjects into police officer vocational training programmes of partner institutions.
This helps to improve the quality of police officer vocational training in institutions participating in strategic partnership by transferring and applying new ideas and good practices to training process. In addition, this strengthens the ability of lecturers to choose and apply training methods oriented towards international groups of cadets on the basis of cooperation in the field of police cadet vocational training. The training programme will be composed including specific subjects that are component parts of cadet training programmes in partner countries and adapting the credit number of different subjects in the programme. Therefore, it will create an opportunity to evaluate the achievements of the participants and formally recognize these achievements when participants return to their institutions. As well as ensure long term benefit of project results application after the completion of the project.
