Project Summary
Assessment tools have an empirical role in schools because students are guided to higher education according to the results obtained from assessment tools. For this reason, young learners’ English language teachers’ beliefs are significant in this process because their beliefs influence their teaching strategies. Traditional approaches of assessment methods such as pencil and paper tests are poor to reflect students’ real potential in learning process. These tests cause lack of communication skills and poor problem solving ability for students.
The project ASSESS aims to define innovative methods and tools for the assessment of EFL learners. Its main goal is to bring new approaches to assessment and contribute to development of evaluation consciousness. It also wants to support restoration of assessment system and share good practices among European countries. By creating an international network , school and teachers can learn from one another, share valuable knowledge and insights and are better equipped. This strategic partnership offers a bridging innovative activity with concrete outcomes in Europe. These aspects contribute to many key objectives of The Europe 2020 strategy such as “promoting entrepreneurship, creativity and innovativeness at all levels of education”, “Promoting the acquisition of skills and competences “ and “adopting a holistic approach to language teaching and learning.”
The Project will be implemented with totally 6 partners from 6 countries : Portugal,Turkey, Finland,Greece,Germany and Spain. Some of the chosen partner countries are known well with their language education in the schools. That’s why it will be a good chance to create an online exam creator where EFL teachers can share the best methods and techniques in the assessment of young learners.
– AEPC is the leading and coordinating organization who will take part in all parts of the project as a supervisor and coordinator. They also will be in charge of project management, financial issues, technical implementation of the dissemination site, creation of the handbook and web portal.
-Learnmera Oy and BURGED will be responsible for the development of assessment methodologies and the coordination of the material creation for the web portal (O.E.C.)
-Inercia Digital will be in charge of the creation and development of the technological part of the online exam creator and creation of website, visual design, design of forms, brochures and flyers as well as the logo design.
-Action Synergy S.A will be in charge of preparing and organizing the training activity for English teachers from partner countries about the innovative assessment methodologies.
-EMG and BURGED will be responsible for all dissemination activities and quality assurance of the project.
With ASSESS, all the partners will have a chance to promote the specific skills acquisition and skills enhancement for foreign language teachers for:
1) effective teaching and evaluation methods of foreign languages in particular through the use of ICT
2) choice of quality products in language assessment, identifying the best meet the specific educational needs
3) use of products available either as an alternative or as an integration of traditional methodologies
4) creation from scratch of educational and training products that exploit the potential of new technologies
In order to reach these goals, four outputs are foreseen: “Report on Curriculum,Database for Online Exam Online Creator, Online Exam Creator ,Rating Scale and “Teachers’ Guidebook” are going to be produced in the light of survey that we implemented before the project. These outputs developed with this project will be accessible for every educational institution. We expect that many EFL teachers will have desire to use this platform and the impact of this project will increase rapidly.
Project website will be designed at the beginning of the project and it will be the main tool to disseminate the results of project in the end as well as during the progress of project. Applicant organization ensures to keep the project website on air for at least 5 years after the project has finished. All partners will disseminate the project results inside their organizations to educational institution board, teachers/school staff and (when applicable) students. Each organization will also put the link of project website on the official website of their organizations to support the dissemination of project. The project’s results will remain available and will be used by others because of the free access to manual and application through online platform. We foresee that the outputs of project will remain a tool to improve the assessment methods and techniques for EFL learners in primary schools even after these 5 years.
