Project Summary
The project “Let´s Do It Together – You and Me in Europe” did develop the co-operation between the schools and kindergartens. The main objective was to create a strong educational bath from the kindergarten to the primary school. According of educational studies schools and kindergartens differs from practices as well as social and physical environments, which can cause challenges for children. By working together we made children and adults in our educational communities aware of the possibilities, that the strong co-operation gives. It was important to develop new good-working orders and practices to enhance co-operation between the organizations. There were five different European countries taking part to this project: Estonia, Bulgaria, Spain, Ireland and Finland. In each country partner primary schools had a kindergarten nearby to co-operate with. The schools and kindergartens involved in this project were situated in different contexts. Some of the schools were quite small with few teachers and the other schools were bigger with tens of teachers. Some schools were situated on a countryside and the others on a urban areas. From such different contexts we all had a common interest to develop the co-operation between schools and kindergartens. There was a need to create strong ties among them.
The intent of the project was to contribute the achievement of European key competencies such as cultural and digital competence with children and teachers, foreign language skills, learn to learn and becoming active citizen. At the same time we had the aim of strengthening the profiles of the teaching profession, developing of high-quality skills and competences as well as the transparency and recognition of skills and qualifications. The project did increase the teachers´ abilities in the field of national and international co-operation, pedagogy, didactic, culture and ICT.
The project included five project meetings, one in each participating country. In meetings the partners did introduce their school and early education system as well as the student welfare services and organized a short course of using digital tools in teaching and learning (eTwinning, BookCreator, iMovie, Office365 etc.). It was important to get to know different cultures and ways of doing education. During the project experiences and good-working practices were shared by eTwinning. Between the project meetings all partners did carry out the activities planned together. Schools and kindergartens organized educational days with changing program together, develop the “big sister/brother” -system with children and collected a year-around calendar including the co-operation activities piloted in the project. The children were involved in great part of the project and there was communication among them. The goal was to make children aware of the benefits and importance of co-operation between children in different ages. Because of the Covid-pandemic many of the project activities were made in small groups and only the outputs were shared. During the project children learned about different European countries, languages and cultures to enhance European identity and common values. Children are the new European generation and for them it is important to know, what kind of countries and ways of doing there is in Europe.
The dolls Maria and Mikael were the main characters of the project and through their adventures children got to know the partner schools and kindergartens, different educational environments and cultures. The dolls studied and traveled in each participating country, which was documented and shared in eTwinning. In the end of project their adventures was collected in a book “Let´s Do It Together – You and Me in Europe” and shared to all partner schools´ and kindergartens´ libraries.
In the future the results of the project can be used in different educational communities in all partner countries. This project created new ways of national and international co-operation between the schools and kindergartens and gave concrete tools for strengthening teachers profession.
