Project Summary
The project title is “Household without chemicals”. We are 6 countries. The main objective of our project is to make the pupils and the families through them aware of the importance of health and environment protection today. The Treaty of Amsterdam of 1997 determined sustainable development as one of the most important fundamental priorities for the European Union. The idea of improving life quality and environment protection appears among the four fundamental objectives of the EU politics. The development of environmental awareness and behaviour has to be started during childhood. This requires parents as well as teachers to change their perceptions. We have to make the children aware of the synthetic and natural chemicals in our surroundings, and their effects on life. During our project work the pupils will analyze the chemicals they use for doing the laundry, washing the dishes, cleaning, cosmetics, hygiene, and cooking-baking in their households. We will analyze their components and examine their effects on living organism, and try to find those natural chemicals that could substitute them. It’s very important for the pupils to be able to consider what they can protect their environment with and how to contribute to sustainability. We hope that the personal experience will induce the change of perception of the pupils, the parents as well as the participating teachers, which is essential to ensure sustainable development. We wish to introduce the following indicators to the pupils and we will try to improve them:
• efficient usage of resources, keeping waste generation to a minimum
• limiting pollution to a level that does not harm the nature and human health
• protection of people’s health by sustaining safe, pleasant and clean environment
• ensuring availability of good quality food and water
Practicing environmental education includes changing the attitude, behaviour and life style as well. We are trying to contribute to this with our project. The practical experiences will act as catalysts during this process.
The target group of the project is students from 12 to 16 years old and their families. We would like to involve different type of institutions (primary schools, secondary schools and associations active in education fields) to address pupils in different ages.
We plan to create 4 intellectual products through the 3 year of our project:
– Mobil app to reduce ecofootprint
– Recipe book of Hygiene products made from natural ingredients
– Homemade healthy food recipes without additives
– Board games for learning about environmental issues in a playful way
We have planned multiplier events for the presentation of intellectual outputs at national level in all countries. This greatly contributes to the project’s broad impact.
With the project we would like to increase the girls’ interests in natural sciences by approaching topics scientifically which they are familiar with in everyday life. The ration of the boys and girls is 1:3.
The question of environmental protection, environmental pollution and sustainability concerns the scientists, the leaders of the countries and every people all around the world. Everyone feels that urgent changes are required in this area. However, each country is following a different path, and the results achieved so far are different as well. They face different environmental effects, pollutions and problems, and possess different natural resources. The traditions are different as well which also affect and determine the directions of environmental protection. The project is an excellent opportunity for the students to examine the similarities and differences and how each country is progressing with these changes. What is the attitude of the people, what means are they trying to apply effectively in the area of health protection, environmental protection and sustainability. Therefore it is important to us that 6 countries, 6 partners with different culture joins our project and make it possible to have a wide comparison, and to learn from each other.
The main objective is the change of attitude, knowledge expansion in the topic of environment protection and sustainability.
