Project Summary

CONTEXT

Schools should provide more attention to the preparation of teachers and students to face first aid and health related emergencies.
Teachers, as a full time employee are the main care givers and can be the first line protector of students at school. So, it is essential for the teachers to be trained in first aid management.
Researchers reported poor or incorrect practices associated with injuries, illnesses and first aid management among school teachers.

TARGET GROUPS

TIRAMISU is directly aiming to secondary school teachers and their students (14-18 years-old).
Schools need to:
– train their teaching staff and fully equip them with first aid facilities, in order to respond appropriately to the first-aid needs and requirements
– provide students with key basic knowledge to be prepared and aware to face emergencies

OBJECTIVES

With this background, TIRAMISU was specially designed to promote the first-aid training within schools through teacher training activities with the use of simulation as active learning methodology and after that the activities of teachers for training their students on first-aid.
The project aims
– To improve skills and competences of school teachers by developing and testing at EU level an innovative transnational training course on First Aid and health and safety practice based on simulation approach.
– To promote the dissemination of these practices through the development and test of a training model for school students to be realise by the skilled school teachers

IMPACT and OUPTUS

TIRAMISU will improve skills and competences of school teachers and students by developing and testing at EU level an innovative transnational set of training and learning materials on First Aid Health and Safety practice based on the integration of scientifically up to date and reliable information, developed by academic experts and simulation approaches adapted to school contexts.

For the purpose the TIRAMISU Project will develop and test 3 intellectual outputs:
1) First Aid Preparatory Knowledge, e-Learning Package that will provide teachers and students with a basic knowledge of human being anatomy and physiology as a preparatory understanding of how the human body works to be applied in first aid processes.
The e-learning package make available to teachers and students:
– An interactive questionnaire to measure their entry level of knowledge
– A learning package organized in different modules, each addressing the main systems of the human body through Preparatory Knowledge introducing the essential information that is needed to appropriately understand the overall functioning of the principal organs and their related function; Specific disorders that can happen and the signals that allow to identify them and Prevention and intervention measures according to latest discoveries in medicine

2) First Aid Handbook providing a full set of instructions to teachers and students on “what to do in an emergency”. The Handbook designed by academic experts and adapted to specific needs and language of school teachers and students will ensure a quick reference guide for administering emergency care to an injured or ill individual as it will contain practical, step-by-step instructions that describe what to do when caring for an injured or ill person.

3) First Aid Wizard ensuring the accessibility for secondary school teachers and students to a simulation based learning environment with which they can test while learning, their capacity to make appropriate choices when facing an emergency.
Trough real case scenarios teachers and students will have the possibility to challenge themselves in order to:
– Understand the initial situation searching all the relevant information to be taken into consideration, identifying the variables to be taken into account and defining the starting point of their possible reaction
– Face different choices to address the initial situation and choose among them which they consider the most appropriate answer considering the possible related consequences
– Following the structure of multi-level role game the user will be challenged with the evolution of the situation according to the choices made either facing corrective options to inappropriate behaviors and/or an explanation in case of total failure
