Project Summary

The Collège du 14ème km is located in the southern heights of Reunion Island, it welcomes 750 students, 2/3 of whom are scholarship holders. Since 2014, the school has been involved in projects supported by the European Erasmus program with the triple objective of strengthening foreign language learning, tackling early school leaving and promoting a civic culture based on altruistic values and focused on Europe.
Our project is entitled: “Music and theater at the service of multicultural dialogue: playing together to build a common European identity”
We wish to act positively on the mobilization of the student in relation to his school career by the promotion of a collective artistic practice. More specifically, 48 boys and girls, aged between 11 and 16, Polish, Portuguese and Reunionese, are expected to meet to perform a show composed of songs and sketchs arranged and staged in a transnational way.
Our partner organizations are Agrupamento de Escolas Professor Paula Nogueira in Portugal and Zespol Szkol Salezjanskich in Poland.
The participants of the project are selected on the basis of their artistic aptitude (music or theater) and their motivation to work in cooperation. In this case, it is a question of favoring students whose exacerbated sensitivity complicates their interpersonal relationships on a daily basis.
The project activities will alternate cooperative work between participants of different nationalities via the Etwinning platform, weekly collective art practice rehearsals for each group in each school and 3 participants’ meetings in Poland (late May-early June 2020), Portugal ( October 2020) and Reunion Island (April-May 2021).

We expect, beyond the production of a show, that this project has a significant impact on participants in the amplification of artistic and linguistic skills (oral English), in the support of tools for learning and in the event a “well-being at school”.

We hope that the repercussions of this project will increase the legitimacy and amplify the practice of music and drama in the fundamental learning of students. We also want it to encourage the adoption of teaching methods that value altruistic behavior.
The exchange of artistic practice between the participants must also open a real dialogue between young people to make them reflect on their respective place in society and more broadly in the European community.

Our project wants to support the efforts of our establishment for the promotion of a plural but supportive European culture. We hope that the Reunionese, Polish and Portuguese families involved or witnesses to the activities of our project will be sensitized to the potentialities offered by the European cooperation to envisage in the long term a continuation of studies on an international scale.
