Project Summary
The higher education and associated research development in Rwanda is of paramount importance in the growth of the Country and has gained increasing attention in past few years. However, the quality of teaching methods, the research output and the administrative organization at international level are still severely limited due to the current practices and the lack of highly qualified experts in the Rwandan HEIs, in addition to the financial restrictions. Therefore, updating of curricula, enhancement of didactic methodologies and implementation of internationalization practices have become a national priority in recent years. This is indispensable in order to improve qualification of both teachers and future workers and, as a consequence, this will have a positive impact on the rising of applied research conducted in the Rwandan HEIs. On the basis of the current needs of Rwandan society and economy, in order to train the future professionals and experts, two main educational fields are selected in the present proposal: 1) Food science and technology; 2) Environmental protection, safety and management. The present Project aims to build capacity on teaching activities and international research management that are strictly connected with production activities. The core of the Project will be the training of staff members required to update current programs, to implement new master and PhD programs, to strengthen innovative teaching methodologies, and to develop internationalization administrative processes. Learning outcomes from these activities will also be shared and disseminated in a variety of ways, including the establishment of mechanisms to assist proactively other public and private institutions. This Project aims to improve not only the quality of education, but also to support the management of research outputs and to foster scholarly communication and coordination between Rwandan HEIs and public institutions devoted to applied research.
