Project Summary
“DecontRamination – addressing hate speech on the streets” is a project that wants to provide space for empowerment of young people, so we will know how to react and reclaim the spaces where hate speech happens in a form of graffiti and street art. Youth will reclaim those same spaces with decontraminated – transformed messages that will encourage respect, diversity, acceptance. The purpose of the project is to empower young people to address hate speech in public spaces through narratives that come from values of respecting human rights and international cooperation.
We will directly include at least 40 young persons in the project from both local environments on a regular basis and extra 160 young persons on an occasional basis. We are also pursuing the next goals:
– organize at least 10 activities per year in both local environments (together 40) connected to marking and celebrating international days and create messages, based on the positive values of those days, that aim to change hate speech we see on the streets
– organize at least 3 workshops per year for young people in both local environments (together 12) about recognizing and addressing hate speech
– to promote all activities on social media and further raise awareness about values of human rights and international cooperation
– to empower and equip young people with skills for decontraminating hateful messages through the Loesje method of creative writing
– to organize 2 international trainings for team members from both partner organizations in the area of support for youth groups for decontramination of hate speech.
Even though young persons with marginalized backgrounds will be the ones directly included in the project, the results and activities on the local level will address all young people and the whole local community. In the long term, the project will bring more engagement in the local environment from young people to constructively reclaim and co-create public places in a way that comes from promoting the value of human rights.
