Project Summary

The aim of the project is to promote high quality of vocational education for the automotive aftermarket through a multilevel (from school up to international) skills competition organized by employers for vocational school students. The manner of conducting the competition will indicate the directions of development and adaptation of curricula in technical and vocational schools to the changing needs of the automotive labor market in the participating countries. Because formal training programs are different in individual countries, the reference level for the competition will be the employer needs (labor market), which are comparable as automotive sector is globalized.

The YCM partnership is made up of seven partners from seven countries, each one is a company based on the country local law. They cooperate with vocational schools in a variety of ways, based on the country rules. They are also activite in updating the technical qualifications of car workshop employees as joint ventures with spare parts manufacturers. The Partnership belives that the combined efforts in creating common standards for organizing and conducting a joint skills competition for vocational school pupils and technicians will contribute, apart from establishing contacts and exchange of experience, determining the ranges of knowledge, skills and social attitudes expected employers.

The project activities:
– review, analysis and gathering knowledge, experience, good practices, effective and innovative methods and techniques for checking knowledge, skills and social attitudes among school pupils- potential employees of car workshops;
– training of judges and conducting YCM competitions based on developed products;
– developing a partnership model of cooperation and consultation in creating rules and standards for organizing knowledge and skills competitions for other professional groups in the Inter Cars group. Available for use by other branches.

The main results of the project, ie the guidelines for the organization of the competition from school to international level, standards for creating questions and tasks with question and task databases, a system for evaluating and promoting the competition are addressed to:
– teachers and pupils of technical and vocational schools in the automotive industry;
– government and self-government administration responsible for vocational education, including those preparing the core curricula in the automotive industry;
– examination boards responsible for organizing and conducting vocational examinations in the automotive industry;
– employer organizations and employers in the automotive industry at national and European levels;
– organizers of branch, knowledge and skills competitons regardless of the sector.

The creation of: contest rules, question and task databases will be based on ‘designe thinking’ methodology. Training programs will be prepared based on the adult teaching principle according to the Kolba cycle, the assessment of increasing the effectiveness of trainings will be based on the Kik Patrick model.

The partnership believes that the implementation of the project will contribute to the process of creating the qualification recognition system on the European labor market of the automotive industry and help in applying the European law on the free movement of employees. It will also support to update the school core curriculum and rules for conducting professional vocational examinations.
