Project Summary

The” Lets be a rainbow” project involved 5 European schools with different backgrounds that shared with the students the desire for cultural diversity,human values through attractive instructional-educational activities. Emphasis was placed on the customs and traditions of the partner countries, on the presentation of the traditional clothes, on the culinary and cultural customs etc. The activities in which the students were involved promoted respect for human dignity and rights, including those of children, formed a positive attitude towards other cultures with which they first came into contact. During the implementation of the project the students had interactive sessions that harmoniously combined the theoretical and the practical part. Various workshops that combined the art of native painting with theatre, gastronomic art with game, linguistic art combined with real context took place. The students were part of intercultural and international teams in which they developed their team spirit and competition and learnt that above all we are egual “We are all the same”.
The objectives of the project were:
– developing language, social and digital skills of the 80 students throughout the project implementation
– developing creativity, communication and encouraging teamwork of the 100 participants in the project (teachers and students);
– doing theatre plays, movies, brochures, interviews, questionnaires, artistic works during the project implementation
– the diversification of teaching-learning methods through a practical-experimental-Montessori method ,active-interactive, interdisciplinary approach
-learning about other European countries.
The total number of participants in the project were 60 students and 40 teachers.
The student’s profile:
-the student should have been within one of the schools of the partner organizations
-the age of the student was between 11-16 years
-student had minimum English knowledge
-the student was available to participate in the activities of the project
The activities of the project were:
a.Preparation activities of the cultural context of each country, traditions, gastronomy, literature, personalities ,size,number of inhabitants,form of government etc;
b.Language training activities (pronunciation, speaking, reading,writing,listening connected with the theme project and mobilitie)
c.Activities of civic education(interculturality,human rights,children rights,tolerance,mutual respect,democracy)
d.Practical activities-painting activities, staging of plays, competitions on various civic topics(human rights,children rights,european values) ,sports,fairy tales contest etc.
e.Cultural activities- visits to museums, exhibitions, memorial houses etc.
f.Digital activities- making power point presentations/prezzi, interviews, flyers,loading materials on website of the project,on eTwining page,on youtube etc.
The results of the project were:

-making a short films on ‘Tolerance’ topic
Impact on target group:
60 students involved have new skills developed by:
– communication in English;
– digital skills (Microsoft word, prezzi, publisher, paint or other applications, etc.);
– sports skills by encouraging movement, sports competitions (swimming, football, volleyball,skiing,funny games)
– increased international teamwork skills

Impact on teachers:
40 teachers now have professional skills enriched by:
– interaction with other European educational systems: Portuguese, Romanian, Turkish, Italian,Swedish;
– they acquired new knowledge about Montessori pedagogy,non formal education in different context
– they have knowledge about applying various teaching strategies in working with students in the classroom by exchanging ideas, comparing curricula and jointly planning some lessons in English, biology, geography, history.

Impact on schools
-5 schools have improved their image in the local community through the well-publicized examples of good practice
– the desire of other teachers for cross-border cooperation has increased. In this sense, there have been teachers who have submitted for the first time projects of type KA1 or KA2 on the field of adult education or on VET within the institutions, etc.
– the feeling of European consciousness has increased and the transnational dimension of the school has been strengthened

The long-term benefit of the project consists in:
-The students involved have acquired new knowledge about the culture of partner countries, linguistic skills, social, literature,civic skills through the real context in which they were involved
-Teachers have discovered new approaches and non formal,Montessori working methods with students in classes through sharing good practice
-The results of the project can be used during teaching classes at several disciplines: English, Geography, History, Civic education, etc.
