Project Summary
VIP Values is an innovative and pioneering project that aims to raise awareness about the issue of young refugees and immigrants in the European Union and the possibilities offered by ICTs to improve their situation and give them a voice. The project aims to make its beneficiaries protagonists, to strengthen their role as agents of change and essential players in the peace process needed to improve their situation in Europe, involving 150 refugees/immigrants. Hence, VIP Values will focus on two main lines: 1) to highlight the problem of refugees and enable them to tell their own stories and experiences; And 2) to recognize and value the technological tools that help integrate young refugees/migrants. This means that volunteering, use of technologies and peace are the three main aspects in this project.
This project will also make possible the visibility of the potential of technological progress, by promoting a clear image of the reality of these young people at risk of exclusion and the strategies being carried out by them as well as by the volunteers and trainers and workers who provide them with help, assistance, etc. in order to improve this situation. Based on the previous experience as well as the day-to-day activities of the entities working in these areas, this project starts from an idea that is already on track in Spain at a national level, the “ICT for Peace” project, which can now grow and extend its reach to an expected number of 1500 people, bringing this methodology of proven effectiveness to other countries and young people, thus promoting European culture, international bounds, exchange of ideas, experiences and knowledge, solidarity between countries and all of that by focusing on technological possibilities and their applications in situations of conflict, vulnerability, exclusion, etc.
Finally, the project fits in with the Sustainable Development Goals, and especially with objectives 1, 10 and 16. Specifically, objective 16 (Peace, Justice, and strong Institutions) is the axis around which the whole idea orbits, seeking to reduce discrimination, violation of human rights and exclusion of young immigrants and refugees, and to do so through ICT. This only emphasizes the need for the project to be conceived transnationally, to help finish a transversal gap, and to cope with other inequalities between territories. At the same time, the work at European and international level allows to improve management skills, cooperation between entities from different countries and the promotion of the integration and adaptation of diverse educational practices.
