Project Summary

The project focused on folk traditions – their similarities and differences in three participating countries – the Czech Republic, Spain and Slovakia.
As the Slovak school generally focuses on folk traditions (especially music and dancing) and the Czech and Spanish schools were interested in this topic as well, it had been decided that the topic of folk traditions would be the most suitable for the given environment. All of the participating schools dealt with stereotypical thinking of their students and teachers and the project was a way of changing this kind of thinking.
The objectives of the project were on two levels – one of them was to compare the folk traditions of three participating countries and to find out that in spite of the fact that we are different, we also have the same (or very similar) roots – i. e. the folk traditions. The second level of objectives was improving the students’ ICT skills (through making, editing and uploading videos etc.).
The number of participants was higher than expected (two more teachers travelled on our own costs).
The activities were following: Skype conference – all participating students got to know each other a little; presentations about the folk traditions of the participating students’ countries, creating questionnares about the folk traditions of the participating students’ countries – these were used in the videos the students made.
The methodology was followning:
1) Questionnare about the folk traditions of a given country
2) Presentation of the folk traditions of a given country – used during the mobilities (in PowerPoint, Prezi etc.)
3) Videos – documented the festivals, singing and dancing
4) Facebook page – shared the results as quickly as possible
5) Newspaper articles – shared with the local community
Group work, dialogue and discussion, comparing, work with newspapers, brainstorming, self-evaluation, analysis and synthesis were all used during the project.
The impact was layered on several levels – the cease (or at least restriction) of stereotypical thinking, realizing that the European countries have a lot in common, improving student-student and student-teacher relationships, improving students’ ICT skills, confidence in interpersonal relationships etc.
