Project Summary
A lot of pupils in europe have overweight and obesity as the european study “I family” proved. Main reasons are a lack of exercise and wrong diet. The project “Mens sana in corpore sano. – staying healthy in school” wanted to make pupils sensible for lack of exercise and wrong diet during the school day. The three participating secondary schools from Spain (IES MARRATXI), France (CLG WILLIAM HENRI CLASSEN) and Germany (Inge-Aicher-Scholl-Realschule Neu-Ulm) investigated together how much their students are moving during a school day before they created, developed and filmed (producing a DVD) exercises that could be used for a movement break during regular school lessons. In another part the pupils detected what they eat and drink during a school day and what food is sold at school. They analysed together the amount of sugar in this foodstuff and which nutrition is helpful for the power of concentration and performance. While working on the project the students improved their key competences. The main product of the project – video tutorials for a moving break during school lessons – could be used by any teacher working at a secondary school and are available online on the website www.mesics.eu.
