Project Summary
In these crisis-ridden times for the European Community, our project « A face and a voice for Europe » was motivated by the idea to strengthen our pupil’s historical and institutional knowledge about the EU in order to encourage them in their participation in and their enthousiasm for the european idea. . In addition, the objective was to make the project participants and the target group of the materials to be developed internationally more competitive by means of complex language and intercultural skills development. The basis for this orientation was a prior needs analysis among teachers and students from the three schools.
The number of participants was initially at 10 students. One student spent the second year of the project abroad. From each of the three participating grammar schools in Germany, France and Italy, some pupils with a socio-economically disadvantaged profile participated in order to take into account the European level of equal opportunities and to specifically promote these young people. In terms of age, the two penultimate years were included before the final year. Furthermore, the project-executing foreign-language-teaching teachers of the respective schools (3 in total) were supported by the respective school management.During the course of the project, various activities were carried out, on the basis of which cinematic and interactive materials were created, giving the project group and the students working therewith the opportunity to test, expand and consolidate their knowledge of the EU and linguistic and intercultural competences. The students taking part in the project become intermediaries of their acquired competences and thus contribute significantly to the motivation of their comrades in the processing of the material. The EU has been created on a variety of topics related to interactive games and films. These were published centrally on a project website for better clarity and accessibility. In addition, country-specific everyday school scenes were processed interculturally and material for their further use in foreign language teaching was generated. The materials are usually available in all three languages. The expected results are in line with the project idea, the development of linguistic and intercultural competences. The Europass was awarded to all participating students. At the same time, a more positive European attitude and better information status, demonstrated by project monitoring, has been acquired concerning the EU with regard to all the groups involved and affected. The necessary long-term impact of our project is ensured by the materials created and freely provided, the Europa-Ags in the partner schools and the various certificates and labels to be acquired. Finally, the pan-European networking of our schools and students contributes to the benefit of the project and a European way of life.
