Project Summary
Erasmus + means introducing the European educational perspective, changing the way we work for a larger framework. The project “A Greener Education” is a project aimed at turning educational centres into more sustainable spaces where environmentally friendly practices are a rutine and the students are aware of the climate change. All this through the much closer relationship between STEM education and students.
It is presented to stay 24 months with the possibility of going on with future lines of work. In the project are involved four European schools: Colégio Novo Da Maia de Porto (Portugal), Liceo Jean Perrin (France), Liceo Statale “A.Gatto” ( Italy) and Sierra de Mijas (Spain). The last one is the coordinator of the partnership.
This project is based on common needs for all members on which some of them are already being trained and they are be able to add an expert and leadership value to the others participants: innovation and motivation, foreign language learning and bilingual teaching methodology, respect and environmental harmony and encouragement of STEM education.
In agreement with these needs, we propose an Erasmus+ project that meets the following objetives:
General objetives:
1. Improving the motivation and satisfaction of the students.
2. Expanding the horizons of students and teachers and increase their aspirations.
3. Improving the ability and professionalism to work at European level.
4. Improving the foreign language skills of the participating students and teachers.
Specific objetives:
a) Raising awareness, directly on the participating students and indirectly on the entire educational community of the school, of the importance of having a sustainable and respectful behavior with the environment.
b) Bringing STEM education and its practical application closer to the students’ immediate environment, getting them to analyse situations, detect problems and find and propose solutions.
c) Increasing and strengthing relations between the participating European centers seeking sustainability in the time of this project and possible new collaborations.
The project is organized in three main stages: preparatory phase, project execution and conclusions and the groups that will participate in it are:
1) Students with ages between 14 and 16 years that will participate during the two courses of the programme.
2) Accompanying teachers and local participating teachers.
3) Other members of the teaching staff who will manage and coordinate the project.
4) Collegiate organizations like the teaching staff, the pedagogical coordination teams from each educational centre and parents representative of the students.
To reach these goals we have outlined training with transnational learning, teaching or training activities of two types: short-term joint staff training events and short-term exchanges of groups of pupils about climate change, science, creativity, safeguarding, land and water, etc.
A working group of teachers will be created in eTwinning Live in order to prepare the project activities correctly and where the teachers from the different countries can participate. On the other hand, at the national level, within each center, a optional subject or working group will be designed consisting of 25 students of 14 years and a team of teachers, some of them from the area of sciences. Families and students will be informed over the project and how to participate on this. For the selection. The preparation of the participants will be very important to get quality mobilities and to obtain the best results.
El project will produce an impact over all levels. Apart from the achievements that we get for students and teachers, the prestige and the image of the centre will be reinforced thanks of these actions: the international projection will be improved and a motivation to continue with this way of working emerges. Introducing the European perspective as the framework for the promotion of STEM education and to achieve a more sustainable school implies a transformation in the way of understanding education and it is expected that there will be a direct impact on the needs and objectives set.
The project will have a positive impact on both the participating groups and the organizations involved: students, teachers, schools, families and local and regional community.
The evaluation will be a continuos and regular process aimed to show the strengths and weakness of our partnership; in short, a periodic review of the project will be done.
