Project Summary

The project “A StandArt for Europe: Renaissances, Resistances, Dreams“ is the result of the enthusiastic work between four schools who have been collaborating for several years. We wanted to give an artistic direction to our shared work. The European dynamic is at the heart of our preoccupations and the project aims at reinforcing the education of young European citizens in matter of the artistic and cultural backgrounds of their countries and their European neighbours’. Art is a mirror of the History of our continent, its current dynamic and its future evolution. We aim to give our pupils the key to access and understand the Arts whether visual, musical or cinematographic in order to help them to become responsible and wise citizens. The plan is to have 266 pupils to take part in short term exchanges, 21 pupils to be offered the opportunity to spend two months in one of the partner schools, eleven teachers to be able to spend five days in a partner school to find out about the work of their European colleagues.

Our activities will be based around the three themes Renaissances, Resistances and Dreams, each tackled each year of the project via different media: the visual and plastic arts, the media and the cinema and finally the arts of the language.( Literature, Dance, Drama, Music…). Each year activities will consist of a mixture of visits, discovery of the artistic heritage, teaching students to interpret art but will also consist of creations, work with professionals ( artists, comedians, writers, dancers…), organisation of exhibitions to enable the participants to actively approach the artistic European heritage.

The work will be carried out in two ways. Firstly each school will work on the project in their own school and share their work via etwinning and the twinspace. This work will help prepare the students to the activities in which they’ll participate during the exchanges and project meetings. This preparation beforehand will enable the students to be more involved and the common activities to be more efficiently carried out.

We aim to create a synergy, an impulse that will drive students to go and visit cultural places of their own accord in their own countries or abroad during trips and to look for rich and varied work of arts that they will now be able to read and decipher. We hope that through the mobilities the students will develop a curiosity, an open-mindedness towards their European neighbours.

In the long term, the project should enable our students to become adults aware of the cultural wealth of Europe and aware of what their neighbours are bringing to them. We want them to become adults opened to Culture, the Arts and the Others, as well as adults who understand what they see. At a school level, the project aims to transform our schools in places of creation where the artistic potential of our students is fully exploited. We would like to reinforce the artistic strengths that already exist in our schools. The teachers will also benefit from the project with the possibility to find out more about the work of their European colleagues. Our experience of Comenius and Erasmus plus projects has convinced us of the benefits and positive impact of such projects.
