Project Summary
IES Princesa Galiana presents two major challenges in the short term: the implementation of the baccalaureate in the modality of Science studies in September 2019 and the management of new technologies at school, both in its application in the Technology class and in the different subjects and in the students’ awareness about the bad use that, in many occasions, is made of these technologies by our young people.
We start this Project trying to bring together those two priorities already mentioned and the need of making our school(s) more international. We would also like to show the great possibilities that these technologies have in the school, expanding the use that is made of them at school and, at the same time, as we just said, making our students aware of the need for an adequate and reasonable use of these tools.
Together with the IES Princess Galiana, three other high schools are part of this project. It includes “G. Aselli” Liceo Scientifico in Cremona (Italy) , which has a modality of Science studies with a very similar structure to the one that we will implement in our school, and with great experience in digital technologies and great interest in the work on the inappropriate use of new technologies. The Rezekne State Gymnasium No.1 (Latvia) presents characteristics in students, teachers and educational interests in the field of music practically identical to our school. This school has also got a methodology around mathematics and science that can contribute a lot in the project. Finally, the 149th Sofia School is a school categorized as an innovative by the educational authorities of its country and that can contribute with values such as teamwork and strategic partnerships with universities in the field of sciences. It also has great interest in the proper management of new technologies inside and outside the school.
The main recipients of this project are students of the 1st year of Baccalaureate of Science and some students of ESO (lower studies level, that could be potential students of the Science Baccalaureate). The work will focus on the subjects of Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry and Technology and some of the phenomena associated with the bad use of new technologies: cyberbullying, grooming, sexting and addictions to new technologies. Each school will work with another partner center one of the subjects and one of the phenomena just mentioned. Within each subject they will work on , at least, two topics. Each of those topics will be presented in a video format and will be posted on a platform (youtube channel) prepared for the project. This platform will have another section in which the videos referring to the inappropriate use of new technologies will be posted.
The methodology to be used should be “learning by doing”, including the development of practices in common by the participating groups, and students should record and edit all the recorded work.
All the schools will have the different topics to be discussed in the face-to-face coordination meetings that will be organized with institutions and specialized professionals related to the different topics of work, so that the students find support in the development of the activity and can have information on applications and professional outputs related to that subject.
The objectives of the project can be summarized as follows:
-That each school incorporates new technologies to develop materials from all the different subjects and makes it available to the other schools.
– That each school may implement techniques and tools observed in a partner center.
– That each school organizes activities aimed at preventing the inappropriate use of new technologies among students.
– That the students begin to consider the use of new technologies.
– That the generated materials are of good quality and can be used by other schools.
– That the generated materials and the joint activities of the groups have a significant impact on the cities of Toledo, Cremona, Rezekne and Sofia
-To establish the bases to extend the project to new partners.
– That the mobility schedules and planned activities are met.
Among the most relevant impacts of the project we expect:
– That the schools know the adequate and inadequate use that their communities give to new technologies.
– Support the use of new technologies.
– Reinforcement of the international dimension of the schools.
– Access to bilingual projects.
– Knowledge of other organizational models in the field of science, new technologies and cooperation among different departments.
In the long term, the project will help to set up and plan the Science Baccalaureate that will begin its journey in September 2019 at Princesa Galiana High School. The project will also reinforce the links between teachers and students, as well as between family and school. It will also help teachers to expand their vision of teaching activity.
