Project Summary

Our schools (Franz-Marc-Schule in Düsseldorf, Deutschland & Lindfield School in Eastbourne, Great Britain) are both special needs schools for students with mental issues. Together with ten to twelf students each in the age of 14 to 16 we want to create pieces of art and perform actions of art. The project is going to take place between the years of 2020 and 2023 within two academic years. That way both schools can offer the project to two different groups of ten to twelf students each.
We chose the topic of art not only because our school feels dedicated to our name patron „Franz Marc“ and because our school has a focus on art but also because art offers a possibility to our students to be creative and take action in communication and expression. The topic of art creates a way of intercultural collaboration with the participants from Great Britain. Furthermore our partner school, the Lindfield School also has a focus on creative art in their school policy.
There are going to be four project segments we want to be looking at: sculptures (I und II), moving/performing arts and light art.
Both groups of the different schools will be creating pieces of art, will get to know different kinds of moving and performing arts and light art. During the stays at the partner schools the students will be exchanging their experiences and learn about and create further pieces of art.
There are some planned activities that both groups want to experience together such as: building/creating sculptures out of recycling material, visiting a sculpture park and an exhibition and museums in Düsseldorf and London (sculpture park Mühlheim, Museum Insel Hombroich, K20, K21, Museum Kunstpalast, Tate Modern, Tate Britain, DelaWarr Pavilion), creating art pieces of light painting, light photography, action painting (according to inspirations by J. Pollock, Alexander Yakovlev, etc.) taking photographs of outdoor activities with a subsequent editing and visiting street art artists in London.
Both groups of students are getting to know the basics of a new language by interacting with each other via social media (before and after the exchange) and they get the possibility to exchange their knowledge and experiences about arts in the direct communication.
Through the exchanges, the students will get the chance to explore the culture and language of the other country. By creating art and getting together by action, the students will grow personally and will develop more self confidence and key competences like communication, interaction and expression. The students get the chance for a digital exchange via eTwinning. This way they also develop and expand their digital skills.
The results of the project and exchange such as sculptures, pieces of art, pictures, photographs, movies and documentaries are going to be presented to public via our own project homepage and via an exhibition. The Franz-Marc-Schule has a connection to the Stadtmuseum Düsseldorf, where another school exhibition already has taken place. We hope to show the results of our project to the open public in a real and virtual way for reaching a higher level of recognition and social acceptance of our students and their work in public.
