Project Summary

Our “Back in Time with an old photo” project is a history teaching and cultural heritage project created by six different countries. Project activities will be carried out between September 2020 and August 2022 with students between the ages of 12-15. As a result of our research with the sample group we selected among our students aged 12-15 in our school; our students are less interested in history lessons, they are tired of traditional methods when studying history, cultural values and cultural heritage are low, but they are curious about the cultures of different countries we’ve identified it. As part of the project, participants will research and examine the old photos and postcards they collect. Based on these materials, the old looks of the cities where they live, old traditional attire, traditional handicrafts and traditional folk dances, old holiday celebrations, local dishes, old items and they will research and learn the famous people, the epic, mythical and mythological stories of their country. They will share the information they have acquired with the other participants in the project. In this way, participating countries will have knowledge about their cultural heritage as well as the historical history and cultural heritage of other countries, in a way a cultural bridge will be created.
The main task of educators is to convey our cultural heritage from the past to our students correctly and effectively. Our students will learn both their cultural values and the cultural values of the partner countries. In the project, which will also use IT skills extensively, we aim to combine the history lesson with technology and develop a positive attitude towards the history course and raise awareness about cultural heritage. Since the project will be in common english, we expect positive progress will be made in language education. After this partnership experience, schools will learn about education systems and local policies as much as they learn about culture and heritage in different countries. It will enable the development of communication skills between teachers and students when preparing project products. Students will be aware of their national heritage and proud of it, but also after meeting other cultures and learning their history, they will accept them and overcome prejudices against other cultures. Thanks to project activities and mobility, our teachers will gain european perspectives, recognize different schools in educational environments, and exchange information with their colleagues. After this project, they will have the ability to establish new strategic partnerships for European projects and gain experience in implementing projects.
Our project will allow the development of national awareness in students while examining the elements that constitute cultural heritage. As Marcus Tullius Cicero said, “History is a witness of the past. It illuminates its facts, reveals memories, guides your daily life and tells of events unknown from ancient times.” Our project describes the discovery of cultural heritage of our students by applying different methods and activities in history teaching and increase knowledge and love for the history and culture of their countries is among the expected outputs of our project.
