Project Summary
The background for this project was the realization that business high schools situated around the Baltic Sea don’t have any kind of collaboration, only few odd projects here and there have been implemented. There was a clear need for a long term co-operation. This would be achieved by building a lasting network of Business High Schools around the Baltic Sea. The Baltic Sea can be seen as a natural business environment for the countries surrounding the sea. The concern about our joint Baltic Sea is also one of the driving forces in the project, we need to take care of the Baltic Sea if we want to have business built around it also in the future (oursea.com).
The participants for this project were chosen based on their school’s business studies emphasis/program/special task. All participants are highly motivated in participating in the proposed network’s operation and share a common interest in sharing and developing good business education practices within the network as well as outside of the network nationally and internationally. The need to build a Best practices- platform and the need to meet other business educators is imminent. There are seven business oriented high schools participating in the this project at the first stage, which is building the network and creating lasting practices in business education. We also have several businesses and universities involved in the project in the study visit stage.
The planned activities are Flipgrid videos made by the and commented by business studies students about business studies (bearing in mind the UN 2030 objectives) on eTwinnings Twinspace. During study visits to other business schools, we intend to have business case studies, international hackathons and visits to businesses. All study visits will be built around UN’s Agenda 2030 and business studies. Co-operation and visits to business universities will be a part of these study visits as well. We aim to have university students take part as tutors in the hackathons organized.
The methodology is going to be based on planning and doing things from the students’ perspective. The students (two from each school) will take part in the initial transnational planning meeting and from there on they will be a part of the planning. The videos and case studies done by the students for the students will give a chance for them to do peer evaluation and learn about business studies. The visits to other business high schools will open a new perspective for the students about the possibilities of doing business and studying in a business university in another Baltic Sea country. It will also provide to students to network among their peers. The educators participating in this project will experience new and different models of teaching business, get and share ideas through the platform as well as in person at study visits. And most importantly when considering the lasting network, they will get to know one another and that will make co-operation much easier in the future.
The short-term impact is the possibility for the students to familiarize themselves with the students and business studies as well as business opportunities of other Baltic Sea countries. Long-term impacts are the shared business videos to be used in business education and the platform for best practices. Another vital impact is hopefully also the birth of a working business high school network around the Baltic Sea that would have members in each country around the Baltic Sea. Meetings would be held amongst the business educators at least once a year, with a changing leader school. This network would work as an information gatherer, information distributer regionally, nationally and internationally. It would also have a clear voice in the European Union that would be heard. It would also work as a model for other European Union countries when thinking about the benefits of having a network of schools.
