Project Summary
The project is named “Be aware what you wear”. The main purpose of the project is to motivate the pupils to more sustainable consuming habits. Buying clothes is very close to the pupils´world because they receive money to buy them by their parents. Education for sustainability is in both schools part of their guidelines and is also part of the Eurpean framework. Round about 240 pupils from class 7 – 9 will participate in the project.Very interesting is the fact that the Finnish school is a Comprehensive School with class 1 – 9 which organizes learning processes in small pupils´ groups based on contracts between teacher and student. The German school is a Secondary School which organizes learning processes in large classes compared with the Finnish ones in a culture of supporting pupils´competences by age-appropiate requirements. The modules of the project are: “Be aware that you know”, “be aware when you buy”, “be aware how to use” and “be aware that you act”. The pupils get to know the garment lifecycle and the working conditions in the textile industry. They get to know texts and songs about this topic and produce a rap. They organize a fashion show and upgrade old clothes. The final product is a blog. The teachers evaluate the learning processes and results as well as the influence of learning organisation several times and compare the two systems. The results will be discussed in the teachers` conference. In case they decide on changing organisation and methods they will be implementes in the schools´ teaching-learning processes.
