Project Summary
Our project “#BE GREEN 5 F: Friendly Fair Food For Future” focuses on a methodology to help students and teachers develop a consciousness for a sustainable change in the production and consumption of food.
The lock-down caused by the Corona Crisis in all European countries has made very clear how fragile our present economic system with its dependence on long and complicated retail chains is. The ban on traveling that almost prevented some 200.000 temporary East European workers from harvesting German asparagus, strawberries and other produce would have caused a collapse in the agricultural system. We are actually not really prepared to bear changes in our grotesque trades of goods from one place of the world to another – globalized dependencies bring our food provisions in serious trouble. These thoughts have given rise to the following project idea:
Our project idea consists of two main strands:
A digital one in which we will depict relevant aspects of our real life in our cities and show means of obtaining food via an App and providing meals via a digital cookbook.
The second strand involves concrete work on gardening and cooking.
In our project, we wish to understand how we can make a true impact on our established behaviour and develop a sustainable concept for students and teachers.
We are working with: 5 schools and more than 30 colleagues and about 500 pupils will be involved during the timespan of our project from 2020-2022.
The main aspects of our project are:
1. To promote a common gardening program between our schools;
2. To create a digital book on healthy recipes;
3. To develop an App to allow our pupils to improve their dietary habits.
The results we are aiming at among our pupils would be:
1. To raise awareness for the problem of sustainability with regards to food consumption;
2. To educate them about healthy dietary habits;
3. To build on their digital skills to develop social initiatives;
4. To teach them how to make their initiatives known.
In a world which needs to become more independent from effects of globalization, we emphasize that a sustainable way of life with the return to regional and seasonal ways of production and consumption is inevitable if we wish to maintain our living conditions for our children.
