Project Summary

Having established various profound relationships with different schools all over Europe in the course of the last few years, the idea arose to bring all the establishments together in order to work on a common project.
As our environment sets manifold challenges nowadays we were of the opinion that the bees, which we keep in our local hives, might be a suitable start-off for a common project to be dealt with by all participating schools.
We endevour to raise everybody´s awareness of ecological issues. Moreover, a get-together of people from different countries guarantees the improvement of social competence, of language skills and a harmonious working atmosphere as well as intercultural abilities.

The countries involved in the project are Spain, Slovakia, the Czech Republic with two schools, one of them in the west (close to the German border) and the other one in the east (in the vicinity of Poland and Slovakia) and Germany. The German group comprises approximately 70 participants, while the other countries contribute about 20 students. The fact that the German students exceed by far the number of students from the other countries is due to the fact that the Bavarian school is the only one equipped with bee hives.

To carry out our project we rely on a threefold approach:
– The first year will be dedicated to theoretical issues. Information will be given on how bees are kept, what different functions they serve in the hive and how people must deal with and approach them, to give but a few examples. Creative and independent work is expected from students.
– Having acquired the above-mentioned fundamental knowledge, participants in the project are expected to do practical work. They might produce candles or soap, for instance, to be sold to the public. Moreover, visits to local beekeepers`places are planned. Institutions dealing with bees will be contacted so that students gain more insight in the subject. Mutual exchange of information among the various countries is taken for granted.
– Eventually, in the third year, students will be motivated to expand their activities. The knowledge acquired will enable them to give presentations and to organize exhibitions. The final step will be taken at the end of the third year when a big festival is planned in Germany. Students, teachers and parents will all be involved and contribute to a successful conclusion of the project.

The project will be supervised and continually put up to date via eTwinning. Surveys and evaluation guarantee satisfaction among participants.

We aim at deepening students´ knowledge of ecological matters via the paramount importance of bees for our environment. Regular exchanges between pupils and teachers from different countries will certainly lead to reasonable competence of spoken and written English. Last but not least, participants will learn a lot about people and their individual culture thanks to short trips in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Bavaria and Spain.
