Project Summary

In the project “Being young in Europe – being young in Waren (Müritz) and Suwałki”, about 50 learners aged 13 to 16 from different types of schools and their teachers experienced through joint learning and working in virtual and real space that there are many similarities between them, but also differences. They got to know each other and their living environments and developed understanding for each other and reduced fears and prejudices about strangers. In joint work, language events were used to expand the language skills of all participants. The students experienced that they could use the foreign languages learned in class and were thus motivated to learn language.
The main activities should be realized between the mobilities. The learners and teachers worked in national teams with various digital tools and designed various digital products. As a digital workspace, eTwinning’s Twinspace was used to work in a protected environment. The mail system, the file cabinets, the forums and the blog were used. In addition, voting apps were used, for example, for the selection of the project logo. As a result, the participants have expanded their competencies in an important key competence, communication and collaboration in virtual space. When using word processing and presentation programs, image, audio and video editing programs, orientation programs with the help of GPS coordinates, the participants have expanded their digital skills. When creating digital products, the participants also dealt with the legal basis for the use of third-party and the sharing of their own works. As a result, civil society competences have been expanded.
Products such as GPS-based city tours, presentations (slides or video or …) for one’s own presentation, for the comparison of customs and traditions, for the comparison of living environments, were presented in school events during the mobilities and also published digitally in the Twinspaces and linked on the school websites.
During the mobilities, the participants got to know each other better during joint lessons, the presentation of their cities in the role of host, joint sporting and cultural activities and family contacts. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic situation, the last mobility could not be implemented despite the extension of the project period. The planned closing event, which was to be prepared during this mobility, also did not take place.
