Project Summary
BELIEF (Belonging-Education-Learning-Integration in England and Finland) is a two year Erasmus+ KA2 School Exchange Partnership developed from a partnership of schools in Jokioinen, Finland and London. This work has grown out of a 5 year partnership between Miinan Koulu, Paanan School and Gladesmore Community School. The schools have enjoyed and grown professionally following two successful KA1 Teacher Training projects and in this project students are taking the work forward. 80 students aged 11 to 14 will take part directly in the project work along with 16 members of staff however many more will be involved in the project work in the 3 schools.
The school councils, which represent the student body, have developed the work for the project as well as areas we felt we could address following a needs and developmental analysis by both schools. The project will have several key objectives:
We will develop resources to use in Finland and in PSHE in Gladesmore to explore how better to aid the integration of recently arrived migrants and refugees into the school and local community.
Through project based learning students will develop real life independent work skills.
Students will develop real products using technology, arts, and language to discover about the cultures of the communities in which the schools are based, about the health of the community and of students in school (diet, exercise, social and group health).
The school councils will develop their expertise and range of ideas to improve the learning experiences of students in each school.
Students will master their use of spontaneously spoken English and develop a knowledge of Finnish and Swedish.
Local families will be involved in the project by creating life stories to share with the schools and students.
Our objective is to inspire students to develop a more cohesive school community in which cultural differences are celebrated, in which students have a real understanding of the community in which thy live and the positive contribution they can make. The project will highlight the social, cultural and life opportunities in different areas and the importance to have a wider view on the world in order to enhance future aspirations.
