Project Summary

The BeMore project aims to create, test and disseminate a non-formal education model on personal, social and emotional skills, development attained by using the method of Education through Art. The project is formed by a partnership that involves the Municipality of Azambuja (Portugal), the Municipality of Moya (Spain) and the Municipality of Castel Bolognese (Italy).
The BeMore project aims to:
– Design a training framework for youth workers in the Education through Art field
– Provide the youth workers with skills and tools that allows them to work with young people in the Education through Art field
– Design, organize and test a non-formal education model for young people based on Education through Art
– Implement three mobility experiences for young people in the field of Education through Art (Municipality of Azambuja, Moya and Castel Bolognese)
– Develop personal, emotional and social skills in young people through the Education through Art model
– Disseminate and explore the results of the BeMore project at a local, regional, national and European Union level
With focus on skill development, we propose the use of a waterfall model, on a starting phase, in which we will promote the work quality of youth workers through the creation of a training framework, and in a second phase, we will develop and test a non-formal education model with young people.
The BeMore project intends to develop a non-formal education model which uses art to create and improve social and personal skills on young people. Several studies have been made in this area and different methodologies have been developed. But the BeMore project isn’t just another project. It will begin with the analyses and integration of knowledge acquired by earlier projects. Instead of starting from “scratch”, the BeMore project will complement earlier projects and will capitalise on previous investigation and good practices. The target audiences for this project are the youth workers and the young people between ages 14 and 16.
The main problems acknowledged to young people are school drop-out, school failure and youth unemployment. These problems affect young people themselves and their families, their career possibilities, health and well-being and result in social apathy/social isolation, unaccountability and lack of values and principles. Ultimately, these problems impact on the EU itself, affecting cohesion, social stability and economic growth.
The needs assessment of the youth workers are linked to the growing diversity of backgrounds, knowledge and practices related to the activity itself and the versatile reality of working with young people. It is necessary to identify common performance strategies for the purpose of non-formal education and prepare the experts to take part in the design, execution and evaluation of projects, programs and activities with and for young people using non-formal education methods.
The work carried out by the youth workers will allow them support in order to develop efficient methods for working with young people, paying particular attention to those in risk of exclusion at a European, regional and local level.
The activities of education through art included in the project serve to promote new ways of learning and are important strategies to improve the level of success on education.
Using the education through art method we will develop specific personal, social and emotional skills focusing primarily on matters of citizenship, active involvement, intercultural dialog, the ability to express opinions, self reliance and initiative, critical thinking, tolerance and fighting discrimination.
This model which will be tested on young people, will allow us to implement empowerment/training techniques that will improve their capabilities. Competitiveness, capacity for innovation and European productivity depend primarily on the availability of young skilled people. The transnational nature of the project will give young people numerous learning opportunities at an European level.
It will also let them develop language, social and intercultural skills, help their personal and professional development and raise job prospects. If young people don’t start sharing their lives, experiences and values of a borderless Europe at an early age, the establishment of a collective European citizenship will not be possible. The European experience is extremely important for youth development and growth. Without these types of projects that share skills and common values, young people will never truly be European citizens. An European approach is essential to help young people understand how they should integrate in a multicultural world and take advantage of the many benefits it brings. The project’s transnationality will enable young people to acquire knowledge and skills that will justify their future development, encourage their sense of initiative and promote creativity and entrepreneurship.
