Project Summary

The project was created by combining of the two civic associations YMCA NITRA MZ and patient civic association Lymphoma Slovakia. This initiative, which was designed to test a possible solution of the clients problems. YMCA Nitra is working for many years with young people from socially disadvantaged and unemployed young people. Lymphoma Slovakia combine young people often with hematooncological disease lymphoma – cancer of the lymphatic system. Although seemingly different areas, but one problem they have in common.
The difficult situation of these disadvantaged young people they face is to find an employment. When thinking about the type of solution that will be tested consideration was given to two significant factors: 1. Young patients often after the disease and therapies seek for a possibility to grow their own healthy crops, 2. an under-SR agricultural sector and a return to historical tradition of the farms.

Therefore the idea of a project Biofarm – our jobs, our mission ! has arrised which will serve as a training center for disadvantaged young people. The Initiative of the associatons asked for cooperation of certified professionals from the Slovak Agricultural and Food Chamber, as well as the successful CZ Neratov Association. They have numerous and in particular results-oriented experience in working with these groups of people. The main task was therefore particularly to encourage our participants to self-employment, respectively to train them in the work in the agricultural sector. The project participants have seen successful young and old farmers from surrounding NR, BA, but also czech Neratov as a motivation and demonstration of the best practices.

During the workshops participants acquired theoretical knowledge about legislation, processes, environment and agricultural subsidies. They also received an information how to develop their own business plan and marketing strategy. During the seminars there was a place for participants to consult gained information with experts. During the second half of the projects participants worked on the farm. Here they had a chance to experience the reality . Of all the activities carried out during the project, we collected a lot of information and experience, so we put it into manuals for young farmers but also for youth workers. We can be really proud that the project was beneficial for participants- three of the participants started to work on their business plans, but also on the realization of their own family farms. One participant of the project found a job as an assistent of the sale of organic food and biocosmetics. Long-lasting benefits are clear, all collected information is permanently accessible and usable by the public at the project site www.biofarma-slovakia.sk and fun Facebook page titled project. Our successful participants are themselves ambassadors of the benefits that this type of job offers.
