Project Summary
Bookpackers around Europe: inspiring trips through past and present cultures, (Booki Cult) has been created with these objectives in mind. What started as a reading club at IES Enric Valor in 2013, today is an eTwinning project, named “Let’s create the biggest reading club in Europe (BRCE).” In this project, more than two hundred students vote, read and debate through video conference on the same book. Now, we want to enrich the experience of reading, reflection and debate with that of travel and coexistence.
Booki Cult was born from the conviction that reading is associated with a series of pedagogical, social and individual needs. Therefore among our objectives are :
– To make the educational community aware of the importance of promoting reading through an international reading club that will involve the entire community.
-Integrate and implement activities that promote active methodologies and significant learning by contemplating reading and literary heritage as a transversal element.
-Improve the linguistic competences of reading comprehension and oral expression in native and foreign languages.
-Give value to debate and shared reading. Raise awareness in the educational community of the importance of the debate for the growth of democratic processes in educational centers.
-Give value to European cultural heritage to increase our European civic identity.
The five participating schools have collaborated in BRCE. Therefore, the development of the project is inseparable from the experience of using eTwinning. Each year a project will be opened where a large part of the activities will be developed.
The project is structured around four LTTs, which will be attended by two teachers and six students aged between 15-17 years, from each country.
In each LTT, the activities will be organized around five different approaches to work within the literary event: oral expression, written expression, literary-historical, creative and global.
– There will be a public debate among the participating students about a book chosen by voting in Twinspac. It will have an audience and it will be streamed live. The students will also attend an oral expression workshop.
-The students who travel must exhibit their project work produced in their countries by all their colleagues and explain as well as promote their literary heritage in the school and in the locality.
-The host students will be the guides of literary routes designed and elaborated in the first phase, audio guides will also be used.
-In each country, a creative workshop will be done which is related to the general topic of the visit in where the students will work using their imagination together with literature.
-A global vision of reading as a summary of human experience is the centre of two activities that combine past and present: the internet and the library.Firstly the creation of a website, social networks and eTwinning will be created. Secondly, a library challenge, where our libraries will be improved.
Of all these activities, a wide range of educational and coexistence practices will be generated, as well as audiovisuals, oral products and didactic guides.
These activities are completed with a training LTT for teachers in which each school will train the others in the activity that they coordinate. The IES Enric Valor, Spain, will form a debate, the HGLA, Turkey, will be in charge of audio guides and cultural heritage, the school library will be the responsibility of Escoles de Soure, Portugal, and creativity and ICT will be the responsibility of LO Leopolda taffa, Polonia. Finally, the Touschek Lyceum in Italy will train the rest of the partners to achieve the eTwinning school label.
A phrase summarizes the entire project: that reading a book becomes an event in a place. Thus, dissemination is the axis of the project, at the school level, through activities. At the local level through guided visits and the realization of debates, and at national and international level through our website, social networks and eTwinning platforms and E + PRP.
In addition to the proposed objectives we want to promote long term, the trend of the pleasure of reading and the awareness of the European democratic identity. That and the internationalization through European programs which is generated in our schools. We want our students to build Europe through the pleasure of reading. Let’s all get the Europe we want through the books we share.
