The project Breaking the Cycle has involved 6 organizations Cerujovi (Spain), KEDE (Greece), Youth First (Madagascar), LACC (Nepal), CHSJ (India) and BWHC (Bangladesh) with a rich background and experience in the field of gender based violence and direct work with youth. The project coordinated by Cerujovi ran from 01.08.2017 to 30.09.2018, with the aims of foster cooperation and exchanges in the field of GBV among youth between Partners and Program Countries, promoting transnational non-formal learning mobility, and increasing the capacity building at the same time a commitment of young people from different regions of the world to undertake actions targeted at eradicating GBV.

The project included four different areas, all of them supervised for the success of the project such as:

– Project management: starts with the Initial Meeting in Nepal (Lalitpur, 9-14 October, 2017) where representatives from the 6 countries participated in the schedule and planning of the project and activities, as well as the Final Evaluation which took place in Greece (Athens, 13-18 September 2018) to evaluate the activities and project, and share the results, and impact of the project in all places, and to enhance the relations on their organizations.

– Preparation of training materials for professionals:
As a result of the project a manual for trainers of trainers has been elaborated, with information and methodology on formal and non-formal work of fighting against gender based violence among young people. Thanks to the analysis of different activities and work experiences carried out in all participating countries, a guide of good practices has been also created. An Action Guide on the Prevention of Gender-based Violence Among Youth and A Good Practice Guide on Ending Gender-based Violence have been translated into several languages.

– Capacity Building and Mobility Activities:
Study Visit in Spain (Cáceres, November 22-28, 2017) has been organised, where participants learnt how key institutions and specialized services work in the field of the GBV in Extremadura.

In addition, two training courses for youth workers have been held. The first one in Bangladesh (Dhaka, February 20-28, 2018), where they learnt new skills and improved their capacities as youth workers. Additionally the training manual was tested and evaluated by the participants and trainers to guarantee the quality and usefulness of it; and the second one in Madagascar (Antananarivo, April 16-24, 2018), trainers acquired tools in the field of GBV among youth, and were given a set of activities and methodology for trainers.

During both trainings, participants acquired the basic skills to combat GBV and the inequality between women and men, and also other methods of how to work with youth in this area. Moreover, in the 6 countries, 4 days- National Trainings, and 3 days- Local Workshops were developed, during May and June, where participants implemented the learnt methods, and also spread the knowledge between others in a local area.

– Dissemination and visibility:
Project results´ have been disseminated through public and private entities that work in network with the different organizations or in the country in the same field as the project. Thus, a final conference was held once the activities ended in each participating organisation. The project has reached a total of 803 direct beneficiaries, including 494 young people with fewer opportunities, and approximately 1500 indirect beneficiaries.
