Project Summary
Building Bridges and Understanding is a innovative project at Primary School level that has grown from a previous Comenius successful collaboration between St Colman’s B.N.S. Macroom, Co.Cork and Raynville Primary School Leeds. We want to build on the foundations that these two schools have laid with their links in the past and move forward to really have an impact on the whole school and wider community of both schools in Ireland and England. This project will enable our school community to develop an understanding of what is out there beyond the school boundary wall and the immediate locality that they live and learn in. The participants through their short term student exchanges will experience at first hand a different educational experience and develop the skills and attributes that are required to work collaboratively with others and learn that in order to achieve agreed outcomes, co-operation, understanding and mutual respect is imperative. It will also encourage active citizenship and life long learning for not only the participants but for both schools involved. The project will develop the children’s understanding and knowledge of Europe and reinforce and strengthen the European dimension through an international learning experience.
