Project Summary

CRAFT will take its point of departure in the celebration of the European Year of Cultural Heritage (2018), where the slogan is Our heritage: where the past meets the future. CRAFT will take on these objectives and further contribute to them by working on this theme during the project period by linking higher educational and cultural institutions, and other cultural actors from Europe together in a joint multidisciplinary approach on research based education; stimulating, creating and promoting innovation built on shared cultural heritage. The result will contribute to the social and educational value of European cultural heritage. CRAFT will work to strengthen the links between innovation, research and education – the three sides of the ‘knowledge triangle’- within the context of higher education by designing, developing, implementing and testing the effectiveness of a new developed Joint Multidisciplinary Curriculum – the de facto product of the CRAFT project. CRAFT aims to teach new generations of young people by implementing the new Joint Multidisciplinary Curriculum, providing them with the relevant and high quality skills and competencies needed to meet the expectations of the changing labour market. It is therefore an important feature of CRAFT that the project involves both theory and practice, bringing together both educational and cultural institutions, and cultural actors from across Europe.

The activities of CRAFT will include eight Intellectual Outputs. The design, development and execution of these intellectual outputs will be done during ten Learning/Teaching/Training Activities. Of these, seven are of the type Short-term joint staff training events, providing the participating teachers with new knowledge and training on teaching methods. The form allows for reflecting upon and discussing of the teaching material with practitioners, manufacturers and other cultural actors. Here multidisciplinary teaching material is developed, prepared, reviewed, revised, and approved. Three Blended mobility of higher education students activities will serve as a test for the newly developed multidisciplinary teaching material. The presentation of the results from these activities will be done at six Multiplier Events, which two are executed on large scale international exhibitions/biennales, and one as a large local exhibition and performance.

The partners are chosen so that each partner brings unique knowledge and experience, and represent different disciplines, combining theory and praxis, that can contribute to reaching the objectives of CRAFT. The project partners include six partners in total representing five different European countries (DK, I, ES, SI and PT) and including four universities, one theatre, and one designer.
During CRAFT we will be using a variety of teaching methods, tools, designs and platforms. The overall teaching, learning and training methodology follows a multidisciplinary approach on research based education. The specific applied methodology for the Joint Multidisciplinary Curriculum (O1) and the Training Scheme (O2) is iterative, hence following an ongoing cycle of development, implementation and evaluation throughout the entire project period. By the completion of CRAFT, a number of scientific articles describing the process of developing and designing, as well as executing the new innovative Joint Multidisciplinary Curriculum, i.e. theory meeting practice, have been produced. This also serves as an important documentation both to enable the joint activity and structured evaluation, and for easy transferability.

CRAFT works for the European Commission’s strategy promoting intercultural understanding, and above all, confirms the place of shared cultural heritage at the heart of the central EU policies. The project will through this important multidisciplinary cooperation between higher education, professional practices and actors from the cultural sector, lead to novel and innovative insights, tools and methodologies, On completion, CRAFT will have produced a new innovative Joint Multidisciplinary Curriculum, which is expected to have a high impact on the students at higher educational institutions across Europe, who will gain new, necessary skills within innovative practice, creativity and entrepreneurial thinking built on shared cultural heritage. Skills that are needed to meet the expectations of the changing labour market.
By the completion of CRAFT will showcase cultural diversity and by this create intercultural dialogue focusing on innovative practices built on shared cultural heritage. All in all, we expect CRAFT to have a significant impact – both on the participants, but foremost on innovative practices built on shared cultural heritage. Furthermore, CRAFT will be disseminated to the general public, enhancing the sustainability of its results and the visibility of the ERASMUS+ Programme.
