Project Summary

The project tries to respond to an increasing lack of empathy towards disadvantaged people and refugees in Europe. It draws its strengths through a close partnership between like-minded school communities from 4 EU countries and the Greek NGO ‘Kapnikos’, which has a long history of assisting disadvantaged people or people in a crisis situation. The beneficiaries of this project are 15 to 17 year-old pupils and their teachers from Belgium, Germany, Greece and Luxembourg.

Objective 1: Mutual understanding/bonding between school communities from Belgium, Germany, Greece and Luxembourg is enhanced through exchanges and networking activities.

Objective 2: Participating school communities have learnt about EU values, focusing on international solidarity and supporting a welcoming culture.

The project aims at reaching the following results:

Participating schools have
1. acquired knowledge and know-how in working with non governmental organizations through hands-on experiences at the solidarity center of the NGO Kapnikos in Katerini (Greece);
2. learnt how to organize charitable events, such as collecting basic necessities for refugees or disadvantaged people;
3. produced a best practice guide on organizing solidarity events, such as collecting and dispatching basic necessities for refugees or disadvantaged people;
4. established a network of like-minded young people who are aware of the importance of empathy towards and taking action in favour of disadvantaged people and refugees.
