Project Summary

GKS-Muellheim and Gospodarska Skola Istituto Professionale Buje have been working together at improving VET since 2018. The new project “Cars and Light” puts students to the challenging task of developing a real life, state of the art, comprehensive and practical teaching unit of lighting systems in cars. Not only will students need to find out about new technologies, they will also have to think about methods and didactics of presenting their results. Working with authentic parts they will come up with a finished product that can serve as state-of-the-art teaching material in VET. After planning their project and visit together digitally for some months ahead each group of students will spend 14 days at the partner-school. Next to regular lessons students will join in mixed teams each day to work on their project – hands-on learning while at the same time enhancing their inter-cultural, personal and language skills. Knowledge about the actual state of the art is ensured by visits to work-shops in both countries, cultural experiences are provided for by additional field-trips and excursions.
Primum mobile of the exchange is the international cooperation within the EU and the promotion of students’ inter-cultural competence including communication and language skills (with English as common language). Midterm aim ist to standardise VET in both countries. This will significantly contribute to both qualification and mobility of our students. The project may serve as model of practical quality development, since it combines learner-focused hands-on learning with the current state of the art of technology and at the same time it helps remedy the lack of appropriate learning equipment.
