Project Summary

Our school is confronted with the problem of school abandonment. Many students no longer want to continue their studies after the age of 14

School dropout leads to failure in social integration, and as a result greatly diminishes a person’s chances to achieve personal success . The prevention and reduction of this phenomenon are extremely difficult to achieve due to the high complexity of its causes

About 60% of early school leavers are either unemployed or inactive and face long term social and economic disadvantage

Social exclusion is a key concept in the European social policy, and both the Europe 2020 strategy and the Digital Agenda for Europe aim to ensure greater social and territorial cohesion
The fight against social exclusion, through education, equity and social protection is a key priority of current EU policy

In the IDATE report the first target sector considered is the education sector. Percentage of online players on age categories:
8 – 11 years – 64%
12 – 16 years – 77%

We considered that there must be a balance between the time spent in the virtual world and the time spent in nature.

Scope of the project : Reducing the phenomenon of school abandonment among pupils aged between 12 and 14 through involvement in activities carried out in an intercultural environment

Target groups
Students between the ages of 12 – 14
Teachers of any subject that are teaching the students aged between 12 – 14

Objectives

O1 : To increase the interest, involvement and responsibility of teachers and students in the field of nature protection
O2 : To increase the level of digital competences for both teachers’ and students’ and skills in foreign languages
O3 : To increase teamwork skills in a multicultural environment with teachers and students

The objectives of the project will be achieved by carrying out several activities. The activities will be a combination of outdoor activities, online activities and mobility workshops.

We will teach students how to celebrate ecological events of European and world interest and where they can to popularize them
Students will connect to these activities globally
Students and teachers will learn how they can become members of the international nature protection networks

These activities are a starting point for the future to try to transform their localities into the upcoming Green Capital of Europe

The ecological events that will be celebrated:
1.EU Green Capital ; EU GreenWeek ( May )
2.EU Natura 2000 Day (May ,21)
3.World Environment Day ( June, 5)
4.International Marine Environment Day ( Sept, 25)
5.The Day of Biodiversity (May,22)
6.Earth Day ( April, 22)
7.EU Day of Parks ( May,24)
8.World Day to Reduce Natural Disasters ( Oct, 8)
9.The Forest Month (15 Mar – 15 Apr)
10.The World Day of the Carpathian Mountains( Sept, 26)

We will use eTwinning from the beginning to the end of the project

This project increases opportunities for students and teachers , gives them an equal start in life reality and enables an achievement of success in the future (by shaping traits such as tolerance, openness, self-confidence, curiosity, ability to work in a multicultural group – the use of natural skills and talents ). This project prepares students for today challenges, in order for them to broaden their knowledge of new cultural contexts, the willingness, and the ability to accept and recognize the differences , and to gain a European awareness.

In the future, celebrating ecological events of European and international interest will be a normal practice for the schools in the project
Schools will become members of eco-friendly networks. They will know in the future that they can be inspired by the world’s environmental organizations; at the same time they will make their activities known through these networks.

When we selected the partners, we also took into consideration the tourist potential of the areas where partner schools are located
We live in a beautiful mountain area with great tourist potential but untapped
The following year, after we get to know each other better through this project, we will tackle a broader project with elements of innovation – tourism and entrepreneurship (to teach small students about this)

The project will lead to:

Increasing the prestige of the school locally, nationally and internationally
Increasing the capacity to operate at European (international) level
Better collaboration of the school with parents and the local community
Increasing quality in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of European projects and related actions
Increased interest in participating in European activities and engaging in new projects, which are more attractive
A better understanding of other countries’ practices, policies and education systems
Increasing the capacity to trigger changes in international openness in schools
Understanding and capacity to respond to social, linguistic and cultural diversity
Improving linguistic skills
