Project Summary

Celje and León share similarities, especially as regards the Roman origins of each town, yet these obvious similarities remain unknown to our students. Our project therefore aims at raising awareness about the importance of the European cultural heritage that is rooted in everything that connects us.
We would like to carry out the project during the 2018/19 school year with 13 participants (year of birth 2002), concentrating on education, observation and critical thinking as we do so. Students will also be able to aesthetically enjoy and learn to appreciate the art and landscape of our heritage with the help of another mutual aspect: sport.
Celje and León share the same passion for handball. The teams of both towns play in the first national leagues. Handball is a deeply-rooted sport in Celje as well as in Leon; therefore, handball makes for an attractive and important bond for the young people of both towns.
We want our project to have two main focal points – history and sport – so that our students will be able to combine the past with the present, while discovering our cultural differences and our similarities.
Working according to common objectives, each group will start work in the home country; then we will travel to/from Slovenia/Spain with 14 students.
We hope that the project will encourage the teachers of our high schools to participate in further European projects, to share strategies that will help us convince our students of the importance of common core competencies, and, above all, to make our students feel that they are citizens of Europe.
