Project Summary
Theoretically, there is no need to explain the state of our environment and the Earth. However, if we touch the practical aspect of everyday choices in a spirit of care and caring for nature and ask about the goals of sustainable development, then the matter becomes more complicated. Observations, analyses and diagnosis of needs show that children do not have developed habits related to ecological attitude. Teachers, on the other hand, have little awareness of working on sustainable development goals. That is why we want our project to respond to the needs arising from a joint diagnosis, first of all, raise children’s ecological awareness through local project activities and with international partnership. Five schools from different countries will participate in the project: Poland, Serbia, Spain, Greece and Turkey. We assume that at least 500 people – children, teachers and other kindergarten and school employees as well as representatives of local communities – will be involved in the project activities. The project was prepared on the basis of a thorough diagnosis of needs carried out by all partner countries and based on previous experience acquired during the implementation of eTwinning projects. By participating in it, we will achieve the following goals:
1. Raising ecological awareness of children aged 3-12 through local project activities with international partnership.
2. Improving methods of working with a child aged 3-12 in the field of ecological education using ITC techniques and methods “ASK, COLLECT, VISUALIZE, CREATE, ACT” by teachers of pre-school and early school education.
3. Learning about sustainable development goals during the project according to the Agenda 2030, in particular SDG 6,11,13 by children aged 3-12 to shape habits regarding daily choices and activities.
4. Transfer and dissemination of the results of project activities among children aged 3-12 to the community: parents, residents, local school and pre-school communities during the project and after its completion.
For 24 months we will systematically work in project teams with children and teachers, performing the tasks provided in the schedule. We will create themed multimedia presentations (e.g. on endangered species of plants or animals), photo albums and videos (e.g. presenting songs on ecological topics), an e-book with a presentation of all SDGs and information brochures. We will participate in ecological, gardening and other workshops. We will visit places related to caring for our local environment, as well as establish cooperation with organizations related to the implementation of SDG. During 5 away meetings related to learning and teaching, teachers learn new work methods, exchange experiences in shaping competences related to nature protection. In addition, they will present the effects of children’s work, get to know each other through activities in international groups, jointly solve problems and develop skills through thematic workshops and meetings with important people (e.g. representatives of local authorities or National Geographic organizations). We will learn to use ITC techniques so that they mobilize children to go outside and take action related to the protection and proper management of the environment around us. We believe that such actions will encourage children to think about their future when making choices today. Thanks to the project, its participants will be more open to the world, its diversity . They will respect other cultures and traditions and take responsibility for local choices and actions that will have an impact on global climate gain. Participation in project activities will broaden the perception of the world – not only the closest environment. In addition, project participants will also improve their competences, especially language and IT skills.
After the project, children:
– will be more environmentally aware – they will be able to make informed decisions regarding their daily choices;
– share their knowledge with other students, parents and the local community;
– learn cooperation, including online;
The teachers:
– there will be exchange of experience in the international field;
– the knowledge related to SDG will be deepened and the ability to transfer this knowledge to others through the developed methods will be improved
The experience gained during the project activities will be transferred to the local and regional environment. The publications prepared for teachers will be the basis for creating innovations and further work in this area. The planned conferences will be an opportunity to promote the results of project activities (publications for parents and children) and to undertake subsequent cooperation in eTwinning projects created on the basis of our experience.
