Project Summary
Students had instant access to information: virtual libraries, internet information, online connections, which was positive for them. We tried to reduce the feeling of boredom and lack of interest for school subjects by implementing the use of more digital tools in the classrooms. We also intended to make our students sensitive and connected to real life social issues. We combined students` digital skills using film making with their wider knowledge and implication in social life. The project assured a new educational environment in our schools.
Our partnership included five motivated schools. Our project covered three essential dimensions – cultural, educational and professional. The project main aim was to improve digital competences and language skills through film-making, urge of approaching social issues, interest in revealing differences and similarities and emphasizing the fundamental values of our society. Our target group of students were 15-18 year old and teachers of English, ICT, Drama and social sciences.
OBJECTIVES:
– to improve ICT skills and digital competence
– to increase practical skills related to film-making
– to develop students` critical thinking, communication and social skills
– to promote intercultural learning through their specific national values
– to get students more involved in their community life
– to facilitate the exchange of ideas, practices and values between European students
– to improve language acquisitions, and the level of using English language
ACTIVITIES
There were supposed to be four LLTA:s of students and 1 LTTA for teachers. Due to not receiving the full grant we had to reorganize at the start of the project. Because of Covid19 we also had to cancel the last LTTA. This means that we only had two LTTA with students.
The project’s main topic was divided into four sub-topics. All five partner countries had a certain mission to contribute to the final result.
We organized the events as follows:
C1-ITALY – DIGITAL AGE AND EDUCATION: Teacher training course
C2-FRANCE- SHORT FILMS WITH IMPACT: The participating students brought scenes from movies, documentaries and news which were presented and discussed. They attended workshop on the stages of writing storylines and film-making. They had also prepared presentations of their own countries. They made storylines and started filming based on the storylines.
C3- SPAIN- SHOOTING SHORT FILMS: Students brought improved storylines that they had prepared at home and they worked in multicultural teams on assigned topics to improve the storylines and started filming a draft movie. We agreed on which country should work with which film to be finalized before the last LTTA that was supposed to be held in Sweden.
C4-SWEDEN- EDITING SHORT FILMS: Cancelled due to Covid19 situation. We had planned and organized for workshops on sound effects, editing, lighting and creating subtitles. Everything to finalize the movies.
NUMBER AND PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTS
The large group of total school population included 1400 students and 280 teachers from the partner schools.
A smaller group of direct participants who attended the LTTAs consisted of 50 students, aged 15-18 from general secondary education, including challenged social and economic students and 25 teachers (English, ICT, Drama and Social Sciences/Humanities);
METHODOLOGY
The project was designed in five main chapters:
A1. Project management – included monitoring and evaluation, risk management, financial management, cooperation and communication strategy that was applied throughout the project.
A2. Implementation of activities
5-6 students were chosen to participate at LTTA`s. After the LTTAs, participants organised workshops in which they shared their experiences.
OUTPUTS
During the Spring 2020 we were supposed to do the following. However everything came to a stand still due to Covid19 and closing down schools throughout Europe. Sweden wasn’t affected by closing the school but many of our colleauges and students still stayed at home.
A3.Publish a theoretical collection of materials from the LLTAs workshops, related to film-making applications – „Tips for making the most of film-making”. The output gives the methodology for starting a film club in school. Each country contributes to it with materials presented during the LTTA hosted. They start to collect materials in the second year of project.
A4. Dissemination
Dissemination will be realized throughout the project. It starts in September 2018 and ends after the project end date. The online dissemination is assured by the website and e-twinning space. They are created at the beginning and updated as frequently as possible, especially after every major event in the project.
A5. Follow-up and sustainability
Having the methodology in the collection „Tips for making the most of film-making” after the first year after project ending a film club will begin in every school.
RESULTS AND IMPACT
Throughout the project we wanted students to improve critical thinking, skills ICT and film-making skills, level of English, team work, dealing with similarities and differences between countries. Film clubs were supposed to ensure sustainability of the project. These intangible results like: tolerance, respect and acceptance of alterity have great impact on students life, further shaping the community they live in. Participating schools still have gained experience in managing ERASMUS+ projects, and the local communities have benefited from emerged European values.
