Project Summary
2019 can be considered as a year of disasters after a series of big fires in Amazon Rainforests, Australia and many other smaller fires in a variety of countries. So, governments of many countries declared this year as “The Climate Emergency” because the climate is changing rapidly and differently. In this strategic partnership, we’ve applied a questionnaire measuring the students’ and parents’ climate change awareness level. The average score is found at “low level” (38 points). With this proposal, we aim to increase that level to medium (40-80) or high level (above 80 points). We believe if people are educated in younger ages, we can create a culture for the mitigation of climate change.
Considering “The Emergency Call” of the other countries and “Climate Action Target” of The UN and the results of the questionnaire we applied among partner schools, we as educational institutions, aim to increase the students’ awareness toward climate change by developing eco-friendly students behaviours so as to form a common culture and to maintain their global citizenship responsibilities. That is why we chose the name of the project as 3’Cship which symbolise Climate Change, Culture and Citizenship. As Nelson Mandela believes “Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the World”, we try to form a global mindset for students towards climate change and here are some of our objectives:
• Increasing the participants climate literacy and awareness level
• Creating a culture in each institution by behaviour development on protecting the environment
• Act locally and globally to preserve the environment and to reduce risk
• Developing ICT skills through the use of Web 2.0 tools & 21st century skills & language skills & cultural learning and respect for differences
We have 19 project events and 5 LTT. The project events are “Make a Difference from A to Z” consisting of 26 actions and some important international days related with the project topics. 5 LTT mobilities:
•3C’ship & Water
•3C’ship & Air/Weather
•3C’ship & Soil
•3C’ship & Sun
•3C’ship & Love In these international workshops, project based tasks and station technique will be used. The partners are Turkey (x2), Lithunaia, Poland, Italy and Crotia. We chose the partners who are eligible for the project topic via e-twinning and School Education Gateway.
There will be 5 students and 2 teachers in the mobilities. The students’ ages are between 10 and 14.
The criteria for students’ selection:
•English language proficiency test
•Family permission to go abroad
•Competition in which students will present an action related with the mobility title. The best 5 actions presentation will be chosen.
The criteria for teachers’ selection:
•English language proficiency certificate
•Being an active e-Twinner
•Letter of intention and agreement to carry out project responsibilities
•Priorities to the ones who are expert on the mobility title
(two sts and one teacher will be chosen as substitutes).
A project committee will select the participants with a scoring rubric in detail for the abovementioned criteria.
The results and dissemination activities:
Creating a project website, an e-book about” Make A Difference”, sharing all about the project on e-twinning portal/Erasmus+ Project Result Forum/google drive/Social media (facebook/instagram/twitter)/ School Education Gateway, Local educational websites such as EBA/school websites
Publishing the article in a peer reviewed national and international journal
Holding seminars and conferences to the parents in the schools and to other educators in the district
Organizing poem/essay/drawing competitions related to the mitigation of climate change among the schools in the provinces of the partners
Sharing the slogans for climate change on social media under the name of the project with hashtag
Registering our activities on a global website https://www.earthday.org/take-action-now/
Sharing the project result report in a local newspaper or a small talk on a radio program.
Sharing our educational materials and outputs with the people working in the directorates/institutions/associations/universities related with the topic of our mobility
Burying students’ letters in a time capsule to be reopened in 2030
This project will enable partner schools to create a common culture, maintain their global citizenship responsibilities and raise the number of students with high level awareness. Moreover, schools will improve their capacity and professionalism improving their cooperation and management skills in European projects. Parents’ level of climate change awareness will increase by actively participating in project activities with their children. People in related institutions/associations/directorates/universities can benefit from our project results by using our educational materials (e-book) in their trainings, which creates a multiplier effect in terms of target groups.
