Project Summary

Climate change affects everyone, but its effects impact us all in different ways. From shifting weather patterns that threaten food production, to rising sea levels that increase the risk of catastrophic flooding, the impacts of climate change are global in scope and unprecedented in scale. The project “Climate Heroes – Let`s save the Planet” is a project of 6 European schools interested in climate change education and whose pupils want to be part of the climate debate and take action.
The Project strengthens the motivation and interest of students for learning through the use of different disciplines, including art, science, ICT, English and technology, which help to involve pupils of various talents and interests.
The project uses the concept of superheroes to enthuse and motivate pupils and to give them the knowledge and understanding of climate change to both alter their own daily life and also to encourage others to do the same. They will all learn how to be climate superheroes. We will work in 6 modules. :
• Climateer – Let’s save the planet!
• Wastebuster – Let’s save the planet!
• Aquapura – Let’s save the planet!
• Solarwave – Let’s save the planet!
• Atmos – Let’s save the planet!
• Earth Force Five – Let’s save the planet!

Each of these modules focuses on a particular aspect of climate change, examining its causes and effects and asking what we can each do to improve it. Each superhero has been chosen and named to reflect a specific interest, issue or initiative in the area of the school hosting that mobility.
Each partner will focus their studies on these topics and will prepare work on the specific module to present at each student exchange meeting. As well as sharing their research, each meeting will be an opportunity for the host partner to celebrate their own town and local activity on climate change, through workshops and visits. The emphasis will be on “learning by doing”, experiential learning and a holistic multidisciplinary approach. The project will help pupils to understand the need for respect of the environment, through artistic expression, conversation, through experience in the school and at home but also in a European dimension, all the while making learning fun. Project dissemination will be through full use of eTwinning as a safe platform to share our activities, findings, results and e-published materials. Earth Day is on 22nd April and will become a day to celebrate and share our work as we focus on the importance of climate issues at our schools. We would like each school to develop its media and IT skills through the production of presentations, posters, films and comic books about aspects of climate change that are particularly important to them within the project. All of this work will be featured not only on eTwinning but much will also be used in our local media to highlight our work and to promote changes in our communities. As well as the main focus on climate change, we also expect the outcome of the project to be improved interdisciplinary teaching strategies including CLIL and improved ICT skills and communication in English, both for students and teachers. But most importantly, all participants will be aware that climate change is a global issue which knows no frontiers, and which must be recognised by all. Everyone has responsibility for saving the planet.
