Project Summary

What will be the world of tomorrow if our students do not collectively take it into their own hands? Why are the students confident about their own future but pessimistic about the common future? At a time when student engagement is declining in our schools, we want to promote citizen engagement.

At Renan high school in Saint Brieuc and Rysensteen high school in Copenhagen, 30 students will be recruited each year for 2 years, 60 French and 60 Danish. The selection will focus on their motivation to engage in at least one action and the opportunity to shine within their class or in the institution. It is a question of ensuring that the students who participate in our project know how to unite others to achieve our common goal through actions: the commitment and training of a global citizen with concrete contributions. Students involved in actions the first year must “pass the torch” to the next cohort but also continue to contribute to the advancement of their action.

Our objective: COMMITMENT FOR ALL. To be effective and concrete we have reduced the scope of possible investments to four main motivating areas of work. It should allow us to get student membership.

I will commit myself to:
– my high school
– others
– the planet and the world
– health

Meeting students from different countries helps to focus and provides a better overview of engagement selected. The common construction of activities aims to train by peers a global citizen of the world, involved and respectful of the world around him or her.

Students choose their commitment, make their diagnosis, update training needs, theoretical content so as not to fall into clichés and propose concrete actions that we seek to promote and disseminate if possible locally and, on the Internet, (website).

Pedagogical approaches of the project:

* Linguistic reinforcement of French students with difficulties in particular technological studies (dedicated time in all classes for a 1 hour per week co-teaching in a technological discipline in English in order to get back to basics and to be able to express themselves because some students do not master a minimum vocabulary)
* Linguistic deepening for students involved in “political science” training so that they will be able to facilitate a debate in English, at the same time carry out activities.
* Practice of newspaper journalism mainly for danish students in order to practice french writing.

Commun accomplishments: In an approach that values commitment to the benefit of others in contrast to the individualism that dominates, we all come out winners:

* Students progress in language, take ownership of our establishments by carrying out rewarding projects, discover different universes and open up to the European dimension in a synergistic work. We try to disseminate their productions inside and outside our institutions.
*During stays with our correspondents the comparison of education systems, the exchange of practices but also the observation of groups of students put into autonomy benefits all. Schools, teachers and staff take benefit from any actions suggested by students in a virtuous and common approach to appropriate the premises, their schooling and the world of tomorrow.

Step by step the project highlights the notion of community and values the school’s very spirit.
