Project Summary
“REMEDY – Mediation in youth work” is a cross-sector partnership aimed at promoting mediation in youth work as a means of empowering young people to approach conflict in a constructive way and use it as an opportunity for change. It will bring together six organisations from different fields (youth work, higher education, business, social work) and different cultures (Colombia, Greece, Italy, Poland, Spain, Vietnam) to work together for two years and achieve the following objectives:1. Identifying the most important conflict situations that affect youth in each local community.2. Building up youth in conflict management competences, with special focus in mediation.3. Creating a sustainable network of organizations willing to share and gain expertise in the field of mediation applied to youth work4. Giving voice to local stakeholders that impact youth conflict situations.5. Empowering youth workers to use mediation as role models in their communities.6. Sharing best practices in dealing with conflicts used in each community.7. Designing a validated and adapted cross-cultural model of mediation in youth´s conflicts and train participants that an disseminate the main outcomes in their countries. This project is a direct follow up of previous activities of the partners, including: strategic partnership “First ADR Kit” (2016-2018), aimed at creating new, educational methods of teaching mediation techniques to youth and Partnership Building Activity “Ready to Mediate: Direction Youth” (2019). By engaging multicultural partners, we broaden the discussion on cultural aspects of conflict approach, and by allying organizations with different expertise (research, professional mediation experience, digital platform development, non-formal education, youth work) we will improve the response to the following needs:1. Building more sustainable and specialized networks on the topic,2. Identifying and sharing good practices,3. Identifying the most difficult conflict situations young people face so trainings and mediation processes can be adapted accordingly,4. Deepening youth workers training on conflict management and designing sustainable and open training resources of these competences, and;5. Involving local stakeholders. The main target groups are: youth workers, local stakeholders (hall delegates, youth lead NGO representatives, schools’ representatives), young people facing conflict and partner organisations. In order to achieve our goals, we will carry out these activities:1. Research on conflict situations in all partner countries,2. 3 training courses for 24 participants (on communication, negotiation and mediation) combining existing scientific knowledge with non-formal education methods.3. Designing open resource e-learning tools about mediation in youth work – 180 learners;4. Good Practices Guidebook;5. Ongoing evaluation and dissemination of the results;6. Local trainings and workshops delivered by the participants of the project.
