Project Summary
The core of this project is knowledge of European cultural heritage, from his local dimension, and the importance of her protection, enjoyment and sharing, through ICT and a collaborative approach.
This project involves students and teachers from Liceo Statale Machiavelli Capponi Liceo Internazionale,Florence, Italy, Luseio Lukioa,
Lappeenranta, Finland and Clara Schumann, Bonn,Germany upper secondary schools. The above high schools intend to organize activities,
exchanges and professional training over a two-year period. The focal point of these activities will be the realization by the students of tours
introducing the cultural, artistic and natural heritage of the respective cities involved. These activities will be enacted by the students in
collaboration with their teachers.
The realization of these tours will be preceded by class research development and use of multimedia such as e-twinning and other ICT
platforms. The student’s creativity and knowledge of their territory will be shared with the curiosity and interests of students in their partner
schools. A constant flow of exchange between students, their accompanying teachers and professors in training in the partner
countries, will provide a active intercultural experience whereby those involved will be able to test their linguistic skills and ability to adapt to
and understand a different cultural context. Along this line there are also plans to organize guided visits to specific cultural and natural sites.
The exchange activities between the classes and the teacher training courses will run in parallel for two years and will be divided into two
groups as follows:
EXCHANGE ACTIVITIES AMONG CLASSES
1. Distance learning: The classes will identify a common theme and organize a tour to discover the heritage of their city. Multimedia material,
information, digital products will be collected and produced in preparation for the respective visits from their partners.
2. Activities during exchange: Finnish and German students will visit Florence in February, while the Italian students will go in part to Finland
and in part to Germany in April. The corresponding classes will welcome them and follow the itineraries which have been previously prepared.
During their stay the students will keep a blog or diary where their experiences will be related along with corresponding materials.
3. During this period the Italian students will collaborate with the UNESCO headquarters in Florence, Italy.
ACTIVITIES FOR TEACHERS:
1.The teachers will coordinate times, tools and methods of student work and establish the time schedule for virtual meetings (chat and/or
videoconferences) and student accommodations abroad.
2.Within the two year period three opportunities will be given to two teachers per school to participate in a training activity organized, in turn,
by each of the participating schools. These activities should include job shadowing, exchange of ideas and activities, school visits and
information sessions regarding the local school system and teaching methods in use.
3.During the exchange the accompanying teachers will have the opportunity to learn more about the host school and the organization of
the local school system as well as assist the students in lessons as active observers of class activities and teaching methods along with
participating in guided tours organized by the host school.
The objectives identified for the project involve three distinct areas:
-the development of pupils’ skills within an interdisciplinary and intercultural perspective while focusing on the conscious and
autonomous use of ICT, the mastery of foreign languages and the awareness of the cultural richness of their country and that of their
partners. Students will obtain a greater awareness of their European citizenship while stimulating individual autonomy and open-mindedness
-the development of methodological exchange along with the strengthening of foreign language skills through socializing and meeting
with colleagues from other countries for the participating teachers facilitating the exchange of information and activities related to the
respective schools.
-emphasis on the European dimension by strengthening the bonds between schools that in the past have collaborated in exchange
programs and which intend to extend and develop these experiences in the future. This unique project offers for the first
time, an opportunity to the schools involved through the implementation of a more complete and structured planning, the
possibility to enrich their European dimension and relationships with foreign educational institutions in quantitative and qualitative
terms while combining student mobility with teacher training.
It is hoped that these activities will stimulate the renewal of teaching practices within institutions involved.
Through this project the above schools intend to create a network of international relationships and an axis of development for
future European initiatives.
