Project Summary

Project Title
CLIL

Background
Parkwood Primary School, London and C.E.I.P. Virgen de la Salud in Zamora, Spain have been working together for several years. The pupils have been involved in an exchange to develop linguistic and cultural competences.
Several members of staff from Parkwood visited C.E.I.P. Virgen de la Salud in 2019 & plan to visit in 2020 as part of a KA1 structured training course.
Creative Arts and Outside Learning are at the heart of the curriculum in the Zamora school, and the school in the UK is developing a Content and Language Integrated Learning approach through combining Art and Spanish .
The Spanish school is already involved in a government-supported project with a Portuguese school, Agrupamento de Escolas de Miranda do Douro this year with an aim to align their curriculum offer as part of a review of provision in the area.

Aim
To develop a comprehensive approach to language teaching and learning through the adoption of a Content and Language Integrated Learning approach to the teaching of Art.
To continue to provide an opportunity for staff and pupils to improve their language skills in both their native language and the foreign language that they are learning though joint Literacy and Language projects.
To motivate ,extend and bring greater depth to the pupil learning experience through direct contact with foreign people and places.

Methodology
The project will involve staff training on the CLIL approach and the planning and preparation for a trilingual project on ‘Towers’.
Participants from all three countries will work together in all three geographical locations to produce a book of stories, a book of poems, PowerPoint presentations, exhibitions, maquettes and sculptures.

Results & Impact
The project will raise the profile of Art and will develop the confidence of staff in all three schools to take a cross curricular approach to their teaching to ensure the children have meaningful and immersive experiences.
The project will impact long term planning and policy by ensuring that each school establishes and continues to develop a global dimension across their whole curriculum.
