Project Summary
Cultural ecology explains that humans are part of their environment and both affect and are affected by the other.
Man is an important part of the ecosystem of nature. All cultural activity interferes with the ecological balance of the local environment, and every human society is more or less dependent on natural conditions and resources. The study of how mankind has adapted itself through its cultural forms in order to exist in its environment, and the study of the reciprocity between nature and culture is what we are planning to deal with.
Environmental degradation is not simply the result of technology and economy. The underlying cause is the collective behavior of individuals in a society, behavior that is predominantly cultural. Cultural ecology can contribute to environmental science and education as well as to the solution of environmental problems.
Our proposed project aims to address three groups in a comprehensive way:
STUDENTS
-Students in a cultural ecology education will explore ways in which the environment affects culture and culture changes the environment. They will understand how their decisions and actions affect the environment. Also they will build knowledge and skills necessary to address environmental issues and take action to keep our environment healthy and sustainable for the future.
1. Creation of Ecological Meeting Center-EMC students will provide solutions and strategies, will collect feedback and will incorporate best practices to the school providing new ways of educating for ecological thinking and environmental sustainability. Its primary goal is to help school achieve zero waste status through recycling, reusing, composting and other green practices.
2. Through Art project students will realize the need to reduce plastic packaging waste and plastic litter.
3. Students will study of how mankind has adapted itself through its cultural forms in order to exist in its environment and the reciprocity between nature and culture, realize the social and educational value of Europeans culture heritage
TEACHERS
-Teachers by identifying strategies that are effective in dealing with students, providing technological solutions, trainings and helping teachers build their own environmental knowledge, teaching skills. We will be trained to staff trainings and we to be more competent teachers who will have meta-knowledge on how to develop and implement activities for environmental knowledge and teaching skills.
It will create a modern dynamic and committed staff ready to cater for students’ needs by developing basic skills and key competences. As a result, more professional and friendly environment inside the schools.
STAKEHOLDERS
When students decide to learn more or take action to improve their environment, they reach out to community experts, volunteers and local facilities to help bring the community together to understand and address environmental issues impacting their neighborhood. Sense of place and connection through community involvement.
We are planning innovative activities to address the needs of our students:
— We will encourage students to demonstrate interesting in recycling and/or litter prevention in our school. Students will collect information about their needs and how to best meet them.
— We will partner with Eco-PHONES Company to help schools recycling cellphones properly, we will put smartphones to Eco-ATM machines in our schools.
— We will provide lectures to support recycling and educational materials to the students. It will help shape the way students handles its waste a including recycling services.
— We will host an annual conference to help bring together leaders, students, teachers and parents in an effort to exchange ideas, improve recycling at the school and city.
—Art Project by using recycle material
—e-book: 10 positive environmental practices to protect the environment in important ways.
—Mobile app: a “road map” to provide direct information of weekly schools activities, meetings, materials for different subjects, informing students and their families
–Quizlet: learn foreign languages.
—eTwinning project which it focuses how humanity affects its environment through all its activities.
–Website in every partner school
–Project platform
Partners have been using eTwinning portal as a means of introducing our project. We decided to set up a common project because we realized that it enabled us to start the cooperation even earlier which would give a chance for international cooperation to a bigger number of students.
We have set a number of targets to be reached by the end of the project. All measurable indicators have been identified and the measures will be taken to evaluate our results.
Project results, outcomes and outputs together with a description of each action and contact details will be published on several platforms.
